what gears for prostreet truck

69 chevy shortbed with 431 big block, turbo 400 with 3800 stall, new 28/14.5/16 hoosier qtp tires. Has 373 gears and was wondering if 410 would pick up my et. ran a best 11.96 at 110 with 1.76 60 ft on worn out 10 in slicks spinning off the line. I can't remember what rpm i was going through the traps it seamed to be around 5800. Redlines at 7000 rpm.

sweet truck! if you don't run allot on the highway the 4.10's probably would be a little quicker at the track!

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

you want to be going thru the traps at peak HP rpm. So if it redlines at 7000, your going thru at 5800 or so, you might wanna stay were your at. Might slow down if you increase to much. too bad they don't make a 3.90 gear for our 12 bolt truck rearends

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

looked at my dyno sheets and its peak hp 684 at 6900 rpm and i'm making 614 at 5800 and peak torq of 579 at 5000 rpm. That's telling me that maybe my converter is to tight at 3800. I just think that with this much power it ought to be quicker than what it ran. Hopefully the new slicks will help. Any advice on converter selection?

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

that's a stout motor! What does the truck weigh? What size slick you going with?

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

it's the hoosier qtp 28/14.5/16, the other slicks that i had on it before were a set of used 28x10.5/16, a friend of mine watched me leave the line and he said that i was spinning pretty good off the line and i did a real good burn out. If anything my reaction time was a .000 using the trans brake. Not sure what truck weighs, was told around 4800lbs. Saved a little weight by removing all ac stuff, aluminum driveshaft etc. Like to put a fiberglass cowl hood and fiberglass chrome plated bumpers, but would like the truck to look kind of stock. Don't care to drive it on street very much, so i bought a 18ft car hauler.

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

Mine is kind of backwards! I have a glass nose and glass doors but I have a chrome steel bumper on the front. It doesn't have all the brackets though. I have a fatman frontend that swaps you to a mustang II front suspension. It will drop probably 150lbs.

Re: what gears for prostreet truck

you're truck looks great, i thought about doing the fatbar for the rear from no limit but they said that my trailering arms with coil springs and some drag shocks would be just fine. Plus if i had 1000 to spend on that and only pick up a 10th or so i would just go with nitrous. I'm close to having to put a roll bar in the truck anyway.

If you check ebay you can get a plate system cheap you just may have to buy it in pieces! I have a plate now but I have a fogger that I need to add.
