Serpentine Belt

Has anyone here used the newer style serpentine belt set up off of a newer chevy, like a 91,92 style? I have talked to people here and they said yes, but when i ask them if the have done it and they said no. I just want to know for sure that it will work before i go thru the work of taking it off. Thanks Guy's

Re: Serpentine Belt

The heads should have the proper mounting holes, but I would confirm prior to doing anything. I would also verify your existing block has the proper holes as well.
If you do not wish to run the air compressor and or smog pump, keep in mind you will likely need to either leave the units in place or purchase dummy pullies. They are widely available.
Actually, I bet if you checked the thirdgen.org site, you would likely be able to find a routing diagram and belt length that allows either or both those pulley points to be left un-used.

Might also verify the water pump rotation.

Re: Serpentine Belt

I've done it, bought the brackets off of a 93 4.8l w/o smog pump. The a/c delete is about $50 but I just used an old compressor that's not locked up. You won't have ALL of the holes, but you'll have enough that it will work just fine.

This set-up is complete... It has the alt. ps pump, all the pulleys, and has a a/c delete pulley in it's place... Best if all i can get it all for 100.00, sounds good to me....

Re: Serpentine Belt

I installed a set off a 1994 350 and worked like a charm. It actually tucks everything up out of the way more then my previous setup.

100$ is a good deal grab it while you can.

Re: Serpentine Belt

Well I just picked up the serpentine set-up today and started installing it, and found out that the water pump turns in the opisite direction, so i have to wait till tomarrow to get the pump, should be up and running in the next few days as long as the people doing the p/s hoses dont take to long getting the hoses together for me....

Re: Serpentine Belt

I am finishing up installing a serp setup form a 93 s-10 with a 4.3. The only bolt hole I did not have was the one near the intake on the pass side. I did not drill the head and it seems solid. I got a ac bypass pully from advance for $31.00. I just told them a 93 s-10 with a 4.3. I bought a wiring kit that plugs into the alt wiring and then into the new alt for $20.00. The ps hose is easy I simply removed the valve from the old pump and installed it in the new pump, which will allow me to use a stock ps hose.

Re: Serpentine Belt

I will have to look at the catolog (at work) but they make a kit that comes with two parts. One goes in place of the regulator and another that plugs into the two terminal plug that orginally pluged into the alt. The red power wire is reused and the ground wire is folded back and taped (not used). The kit I have is to go from the externally regulated alt. that come orignialy on these trucks, to the newer si alts. The newer alts are not the one wire type but they do make a kit for the one wire alt to convert it over also.

Re: Serpentine Belt

I just finished up my serpentine belt set up and I am very happy with it. It did cost me more than i anticipated.... 100.00 for the set-up with all components, 95.00 for rebuilding and converting the alt to one wire set-up. 32.00 for the new water pump. 15.00 for a new upper radiator hose (the old one was runing into the alt.) and for the smile that it put on my face priceless.. thanks for all the information you guys shared with me..

Re: Serpentine Belt

Glad everything worked out.

It looks like the fan clutch is really close to the radiator. Is this an optical illusion or is it really 1/2" away? I ask because my fan has a few inches between the clutch and radiator.
