Re: lsd rear end whats best options??

me thinks he means limited slip diff...
If I remember correctly these trucks(64+) have a 8.75 12 bolt truck diff, plenty heavy duty. These were the same through early 70's but they get wider in the 70's. Since you want to keep the 6 lug pattern I would just beaf it up some if you're worried apart breaking old parts. I run an Auburn posi myself with new moser axles(they were worn at seals and one had bad splines).

I would say it's lived this long, and if its not leaking leave it well enough alone! usually limited slip diffs are a better quality unit to begin with.

If it breaks then look for a rear diff from a 1/2ton 73-87 chevy 4x4 pickup or 73-91 blazer/suburban then cut off the mounts on both diffs and weld the 63 mounts to the newer diff.

O.I.C, I got a rearend out of a 67, for my 62, I imagine it is a lsd also. It is a 6 lug pattern, I too wanted to keep the original look....

Yes, they are, but they are a little wider. I have the 2wd version w/5 lug wheels in my 66 stepside and the slight extra width isn't noticeable.

Re: lsd rear end whats best options??

The axles in your '63 are going to have a coarse spline on them....17 spline IIRC. So a lsd for a 30 spline '65-'79 pickup 12 bolt isn't going to work without changing the axles to a 30 spline pair.

There were posi units for the coarse spline axles. IIRC they were made by Dana and had really stiff springs in them....I rebuilt one many years ago. I have 2 or 3 of these in projects & parts trucks....I don't think you can get parts for them anymore though.
