Re: NOS Tailgate Band ???????

The NOS one that I opened a couple of weeks ago had chrome letters. It is from the mid 80's. It is a wood grain panel.

I had a NOS one @ 1991 and it had plastic painted letters. I took them off and put a set of chrome ones on it.

UPDATE:
I got my NOS tailgate band out to install today, and guess what!
It does have painted letters. I couldn't believe it. I had to look close to notice. I looked it over when I got it & didn't even notice then.

Re: NOS Tailgate Band ???????

This is a great thread. I bought one in the late 80's and it had the silver letters. I still have it. I always wondered why because all the ones I've ever seen on trucks running around had chrome letters. I'm glad to know someone else has seen this as well.

Yeah, I'm with ya. I have a nice original one that I got before the NOS band that I think I'll put on instead.

There's an NOS 69-72 Super wood dash bezel on Ebay...and it is painted silver instead of chrome. Just does not look right.

Re: NOS Tailgate Band ???????

Hey Tim, i guess there is NOS and NOS. Had a silver painted dash bezel so it is probably a lot more common then most realize. Of course, with the paint--perhaps it might not pit as fast as the cheap chrome one's!!
Just trying to be positive!!hehehe

Re: NOS Tailgate Band ???????

Posting my response here as well.

I had an NOS band on my blue/white truck that was repaired in the 80's. The parts sticker was still on it, as well as the stickers on the rear bumper and brackets. The letters were painted silver. I do not remember the parts numbers specifically, but it falls in line with the information discussed above.

Re: NOS Tailgate Band ???????

They didn't make parts in the '90s,they still had some parts left over...around '90,not really into the '90s.

We restored that black truck in my profile, starting in 1991. There were basically no aftermarket parts made. We bought most of the parts at the local chevy dealer. One big exception was the interior chrome parts like the bezels, ac balls/vent, headliner trim. Those were not available and you had to send them off get them rechromed.

Are these painted on? I just go this from Classic , I think they look good. If it's paint then I want to learn how they do that.
