Project wood almost complete - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well It's been a while since I've done any thing to mine,but this is a slow project.Me and Brian (71see10) finally got it put together.I didn't thing it would take so long to finish wood and prep the truck.We may have went over board on a few things but after reading peoples comment on the board and around at cruise ins we tried to get everything in order.

This what it looked like before with a rubber mat.

First we started out by pre fitting the boards to the bed,we hid some of the bolts that hold the bed to the frame!

Next was one of the maybe over board thing,every one complained about not having or enough heat sheilds to protect the wood, I went and bought sheet metal for Brian to work his magic,now I have custom heat sheilds.

Next we just had to put the final touches to the boards and put them in, still
like the
angle on the sides but I 'm having custom ones built,maybe by this Saturday.

I'll post more pic after the angle pieces get installED. Hope you like,(Chuckles)

That looks really good. Great job--you probably just notched up the value of your truck quite a bit, not that you would want to sell it now with as good as it looks.

Hey Great Job, What EBAY site did you get your Stainless from? I have the wood kit for my 67 longbed, but still have to get the stainless for it.

Great looking bed. It really sets the truck off ttt. They do take a long time to do but when you sit back and look at it, it's all worth while in the end. Good job ....

Floor looks great! I did mine in oak during my restoration this past winter, I originally bought 8' boards before realizing I had a 98" bed in my LWB stepside. I elected to go with painted rails (the boss said the money pit was getting too deep so I had to cut out some luxuries) and polished stainless bolts, I'm happy with the way it looks! Lookin good, Chuckles! What kind of finish did you use? I used Marine Spar varnish from Horkey's Wood-n-Parts. It seems to be nice stuff. I'll find out in a few months or so.

Awesome pics seeten, thanks always enjoy your work. I like the bed dun up in natural maple, he mite have some problems with warpage, as the wood looks a little fresh

The Wood Is Done In Oak. It Seemed To Be Dryed Out. Brian And I Stained It. Put Polyurethane On It. Let It Dry. Sanded It Again, And Repeated The Steps About 4 Or 5 Times To Get The Shine!!!! (i used minwax)
