That number can not be right.
Here is how it breaks down; 1967-1972 VIN Number Codes Example: CE149J 100001 Chassis Designation (1st digit) C= 4x2 K= 4x4 Engine Deisgnation (2nd digit) E = V-8 Gas S = Six Cylinder Gas GVW Range (3rd Digit) 1 = 1/2 Ton 2 = 3/4 Ton 3 = 1 Ton Model Code (4th Digit) 4 = Pickup with Cab and Bed Model Year (5th Digit) 7 = 1967 8 = 1968 9 = 1969 0 = 1970 1 = 1971 2 = 1972 Assembly Plant A = Atlanta B = Baltimore F = Flint J = Janesville N = Norwood P = Pontiac S = St. Louis T = Tarrytown Z = Fremont 1 = Oshawa Vehicle Serial Number 100001 = 1st Unit Built No V-6 engines ever installed (from GM) on a 67 - 72 Chevy truck. Not a 10 - 30 series anyways. |

It would help to know the year, model and make along with the engine and tranny.

But didn't the GMC V6 engines have an "M" or something other than "S" for the VIN?
And Longhornmail is still right...there were no V6's installed in 1967-72 Chevy pickups.

I know GMC trucks had V6 engines...my 69 had one. And yes, a V6 GMC truck's VIN would go CM bla bla bla.
However, go look at my post, it said; [quote]No V-6 engines ever installed (from GM) on a 67 - 72 Chevy truck. |

been away from the computer since i posted this. I did post the wrong VIN(doh!) but this is the one that i got off the cab CS140Z133158. I was told It came orignaly with a V6 but am not for sure on that. I bought this truck from somone who stripped it down and gave up on it as a project so I took it over. When I got it all it had was the cab sitting on the frame... so no orignal engine or trans so I dont know that I am putting a 481 with a th400 in it though but was still wondering what gearing it orignaly came with because im pretty sure thats what it has still.

Well, as far as rearend gearing, the only part that really matters is that "S" at the second digit, CS = 2WD straight-six...which I think should indicate a probable 3.73 rear...
But...your only real option is to pull the cover and count teeth.
