6" front drop to low?

damn damn damn

i wanted to go with a full 5/7 drop which means i need to get a set of 2" springs but i found a great deal on a brand new set of djm 3" springs for $70 shipped.


think i should get htem?

I had 5" on my 85 and the tires were only like 25" tall and I wouldnt want any lower. If you cant roll a pop can under the control arm its a major pain in the a$$, thats my .02

i would stick with the 5" if you drive it alot, the 6 will ethier cause scrapeing or tire rub

on mine w/ 3" spindles and 2" springs, if I were to go any lower up front, I would not drive it, would ride too rough.

my 84 is down 5.5 in. in front / 2.5 spindles& 3 in springs/ no problems other than rubs on sharpturns whickh I can live with / ride is not great but ok & Im 60 yrs old . Not a daily driver , but driven regularly 3-4 times a week when not broke or being worked on. most people my age think lincoln town cars probably ride too rough however LOL

I would NOT go with 3" springs. I do not think you will be happy with the ride.

I bought a set of 3" DJM drop springs once and after about half a year of being installed they sagged and are now more like a 4" drop spring. They dropped so much i was riding on the bumpstops. Maybe it was bad luck or set of springs, but i'd never buy a set again when you can cut off a coil from the factory springs and still have a great ride. Another option (if ya can find em) is coils from a 6 cyl. I have a set in my daily driver. They gave me about a 2" drop and ride like bags.

personally i wouldn't do it.i don't think you'd be happy with it.it look cooler than crap.but ya gotta be able to drive it.

I have a total of 6 (3''spring/3''spindle)... I love the look they gave me w the 20's. I personally would go only with the 5'' total in the front with 17's. I think right now you should go 1'' lower in the front only and leave the back alone- it would give u the stance I used to have. But as far as rubn on mine.. yes they do when I turn sharp or hit a big dip n the road (tires are tuckn pretty good now). I also do not use it as a DD... nor would I change back to a 2''. Anyways.... hope this helps you... JMO.

well, the truck is never going to be a daily driver again. i'll drive it as much as possible in nice weather, but thats it. MAYBE 10,000 miles a year.

i didnt order the springs, they ended on ebay.

something else i was thinking was get the front end setup for bags. but i dont want to crumple my headers when i'm aired out...

Regardless of how much you drive it, you still want to enjoy it when you do. IMO 3" springs are just too much from a "spring" drop.

I think the best static drop is 3" spindles and 2" springs.

How low are your headers? Are they below the A-arms?

Yeah, the headers have you forked. You might even have problems with more static drop.

3-inch springs are not the best idea anyway. The ride quality goes down. How about a 2.5 inch spindle, 1-inch spring and a 1.5 control arm.

Your suspension will be much happier and the ride will be very nice.

I wouldn't use more than a 2" drop spring, ride quality is poor. If you want it lower ditch the spring and bag it. Of course, you would have to do something about those headers before dropping it much more. If you are at 3" now, 2" lower is going to jeapordize you headers, 3" will probably make them hit often. I ran long tubes on my 454 for a while and I bottomed them out and I was just 4/6 on a 28" tall tire.

You shouldn't use dropped control arms and drop spindles together, it would put your control arms lower than you rim which be a disaster if you had a blowout. It is violating scrub and isn't safe.

i actually went FROM shorties to the new longtubes for more power

i did that because it wont be driven nearly as much as it used to be so i'm not worried about having to deal with it scraping every day. i'll probably just end up getting the 2" springs in a few months or so and be good to go

jlp get the mustang 2 front end and cross member 1350 to your door, drops it 6 -7 in better ride and quality and not much more than rebuilding your entire fron't end with new parts if i had it to do over again i would spend the extra 400 and go that way not to mention its lighter than stock stuff.

If I was going to spend that kind of money, I would buy a dropmember from Porterbuild as he is a vendor, and I even sell chopped crossmembers!
