Electrical Gremlins Please Help
All, my volt meter is pegged at 18 volts whlie driving, when I turn the lights or any other electrical item on, volts drop to 14, then surge back and forth from 14 to 18. Lights in the truck get brighter and dimmer when the volts surge. New battery and voltage regulator, could this be a bad altenator. Please help electrical is so frustrating.

Re: Electrical Gremlins Please Help
Have you been able to verify the 18 volts at the battery, with the truck running? I've had extremely limited experience with an external voltage regulator, so I can't be of much help, but I will say it sounds like a definite overcharging problem via your gauge. It would be best to verify the voltage at the battery if you haven't already done so, and go from there.

Re: Electrical Gremlins Please Help
It sounds like the voltage regulator. You neglected to mention if it is external or you upgraded to an alternator with an internal regulator. I have heard that you could repair an external regulator. An internal one cannot be repaired, it would need to be replaced.
