Maiden Voyage '07
Well, as a lot of you know my trucks been out of commission all summer cause I've been putting in a 350 Chevy, and a bunch of other little diddily stuff. I haven't really been around much because I've been working my @ss off on it, trying to get it road ready.
I got the 350 in it, and all swapped(even though it took 3 tries to get it in there right, thats another story) and I couldn't be any happier with the results. It pulls hard, runs like a clock, and the throttle response is.....well......flawless I guess you would say. It's a stock 76 350 with four bolt mains, its got a Crane 260/272 .427/.454 lift cam in it, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley 600 square bore, headers, and duals with Thrush turbos. It needs some carb work as it runs rich idling. The cam isn't real-real lumpy, but you can tell the motor isn't stock. It sounds good with the turbo muffs on it, pretty loud when you mash it, but not too bad while cruising. Way ahead of Flowtech glasspacks. The things runs awesome, power is always on tap. Just open her up in 3rd gear and its friggin brutal, thats about the only way too put it. The manual steering steers a lot easier with the 350 in it than it did the V6. the truck handles like its on rails, the steering is tight and the brakes are good, too. Yesterday was the first trip to school with it, and man it was sweet. I got a lot of thumbs up, smiles, stares, grins, everything while driving over there. I thought my friends were gonna sh*t their pants when I rolled into the school parking lot, because I was complaining the day before about how I thought the GMC would never be there, just to mess with them. No one really noticed the truck on thursday, but everyone seemed to notice it today for some reason. I had kids I didn't even know yelling out "sweet truck". I had pretty girls smiling, laughing and pointing at me. (which doesn't happen often ) The assistant principle yelled at me today for revving it up in front of a bunch of kids while I was leaving, but I don't really think she cared much. But anyway, thats what I've been up to lately, that and working, which is why I haven't posted much in the past month or two. Sorry for such a long post, but these past two days have been about the 2 best days I've had for quite a long time. Again sorry for the long post. Jake |

I know that 350 is great in there, but it makes me shed a tear to know the V6 is gone!! No doubt that the 350 is far and way better for a regularly driven truck though!

Re: Maiden Voyage '07
Too dark to get any recent pics tonight, tomorrow i guess. The 350 is way ahead of the V6, it'll get out of its owns way too easy now. I think the fuel mileage is better too. I haven't really figured up the fuel mileage cause probably 2 gallons have leaked out since wednesday and I can't really tell how much I've used. (the gas gauge darts back and forth a lot).
Another good thing about the truck is that it cruises pretty good at about 55mph, it doesn't shake, shimmy, vibrate, turns up about the right rpms. Past 55 though, she really starts to wind up. |
