I saw a thread the other day on a truck that had fabricated a fuel cell door on his SWB Fleet side. Does anyone remember what that thread is?

I don't remember the thread but you can search Tennman he's not very active anymore but did a great write up on this mod.I think it may be in the FAQ's also.I think it's also on one of the board vendors sites,maybe Wes's,but I'm not sure.

Before you do it I suggest removing the marker and going to a gas station to see how awkward it's going to be to try to fill up. I could be wrong, but with those big rubber boots on the gas nozzles I don't think it'll work out very well. I love the idea. Just don't think it's very practical.

The tail light version might work better.

I saw Tennman mans. The one that I saw had a cover over the hoses welded into the bed. Ill keep searching.

Maybe I'm not thinking about something, but why would it be any different that any other side mounted gas filler. It seems to me the taillight is narrower and would present more a challenge. Maybe I'm I'm taken something into consideration?

The tail lights are wider than the markers are tall. That was my reasoning but I honestly don't have experience with either. I can tell you this: I considered both options an ended up going with a Hagan fuel door. Even with my set-up it's tight and that nozzle boot pushes on the door hinge.

I really wanted the clean look of no door showing, but now I'm glad I went with something a little bigger (and I mean a little):

Yeah, I guess by the you hinged the side marker light it would pretty tight in there. Also I guess up and down would be the diection that you'd need more room.

It really depends where you live. When I did the write up on the stepside version I was in California, and the nozzles were a big pain. However now that I'm back in Texas most of the gas stations still only have the spout, not the big rubber boot, and it works fine.

Maybe that's what it is, because our's is also a metal spout. I haven't seen any with a rubber boot.

Can you give me some detail on what problems you ran into with the boot? Was it too big to fit into the sidemarker? If that is the case then I will scrap it and probably head the hagan way and graft it next to the sidemarker.
