Power streering question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Guys,
I've got a 60 stepside with manual streering with a stock front end. At this point all I want to do is add power streering. Is it as simple as putting a power streering rack and pump on or am I missing something?

I have not done mine yet. But make sure you get the right addapter. 60-62 are a bit diffrent. CCP sells the the one you need. Do a search and you'll see what one meber had to do eith the WRONG addaper. Oh what size motor? You'll need a pump/ gear and the right brakets.

Are you using ram assist power steering or a traditional power steering box and pump from a newer truck? If you are using the newer box you will probably have to modify the frame for the power steering box.

Can you get all the parts to do the ram assist (OE) conversion? Is that the easiest route?

Every so often a ram assist set up comes up for sale.A few times they show up in the 67-72 parts board for sale since 67-68 trucks could of had them too.The older corvettes used the ram assist power steering also.I dont know what you can get new.Easier,well yes if you can get the stuff easy and it doesnt cost a fortune but modifying the frame for a newer steering box and getting a newer p/s box is alot cheaper.
