Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
I cant picture the caps. If they are the ones I am thinking of, the lug nuts are exposed, so take the wheel off and pop the cap off from the inside of the wheel.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
I had em on a 68 Camaro and usually I could wedge my fingers in tight enough to get them to pop off.
Yours must be a lot tighter.....Maybe sacrifice a flat head screw driver and put a 90 deg angle on the end of it. You could also put some masking tape on the end of it to give you a little more protection.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
with the tape and an angled screwdriver idea.
I've used police caps and just use a flat-bladed screwdriver, but I've got chrome wheels that don't chip.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
Use a brake adjusting tool and a rag or just wrap some tape around the end.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
You know those paint can lid openers??? Well, I'm hoping that it will get the police caps off of my rallye wheels. What I'm talking about has a flat end that is like a screwdriver with a bend in the end.
Would that work?? Let me know.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
I'm thinking..... paint scraper, grind off the sharp edge, bend 1" from the end at a 110 - 120 degree angle.
give it a whirl soon and tell you the results. a freind of mine remembers taking them off in the early 70's witha tool that was shaped like a 90 degree angle with a tapered end and a rubber heel that rested on the wheel. Last edited by tcb-1; 10-08-2007 at 08:41 PM. |

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
I think older VW's came with a wire loop that fit over a tire tool with the ends of the wire hooked to insert into 2 small holes at the edge of the hub cap while the end of the tire tool rested against the sidewall of the tire. Just a tug and it popped off. All it would take is drillling 2 small holes in one of your caps at the edge and fab up a stiff wire hook much like thick coat hanger wire. Kinda hard for me to describe how it looks but nothing gets chipped.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
boog,
I know what your talking about. had a friend with a 59 oval window that had a setup like that. rare to find them now. problem is, is that the cap fits slightly inside of the wheel ring, so the cap doesn't have a lip. stepn, yep, that's it!! specs on the wheels/tires. 15x8 rallyes, police caps, 275/60/15 Firestone Indy 500's. found them cheap at Tires Plus @ $77 a pop. but I had to buy 5 since I have the side mounted spare! can't have nonuniformity!!!! |

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
As a side note, I bought police caps and derby caps so I could change the look of the truck every once in awhile.

Re: Anyone w/ Police Caps on Rallyes??????
davidh,
275/60/15's, stock height (for another week), and 15x8 rallyes, standard backspacing very happy with the look and tires are nice and meaty! |
