Setting valves different on an inline 6 vs a v8?
My rebuilder said that you don't set the valves the same way... (loosen 'til it clatters, tighten 'til it goes away, then 1 more half turn). Can anyone confirm?

Re: Setting valves different on an inline 6 vs a v8?
I've always done mine the same on 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder. Haven't had any problems yet.
On the last overhaul I did I went 3/4 turn instead of a full turn, though. |

Unless it's a got a solid cam (doubtful) they will be set the same way as a V8 with a hydraulic cam. It's better to get the lash out, and go 1/4 turn. There's no need to a go a 1/2 turn.

1/2 to 3/4 turn is the norm regardless of what a repair manual says. Always works for me.

Will it run fine at 1/2 turn? Sure, but there's no need to do it. The more you crank down on it, the greater the chance of wiping out a lobe. I have run bone stock engines for 200,000+ miles with no need for re-adjustment.

Re: Setting valves different on an inline 6 vs a v8?
I had always heard 1/2 turn but I have no experience. Why is it a moot point for an L6 though? Thanks for all the good info.

Re: Setting valves different on an inline 6 vs a v8?
Just because the cam and induction is not going to let the engine rev high enough to need the extra RPM capability.
