Hi guys, So I finally got my 1960 Chopped SWB Stepside out of storage. I
finally bought a house and have a shop to work on my trucks now!!!
So here's a few pics of the Chop and another of my 3 1960-66 pickups
The chopped one is chopped 3 in. and i believe has a 1960 Impala dash in it.
I am going for the lowered rat rod look on it at this point. I have some old
17" artillery wheels for it too. Might be a bit of a slow project but
hopefully it'll be rolliin around next spring.
The other green and white that you see is a parts pickup that i have for my
1965 that i don't have any digitals of yet. Stil working on getting my toys
in the same place....anyways enjoy the pics!

The guy i bought this from told me a guy that can cut a windshield for me...I'll definately watch and see how he does it. Hopefully he comes through...the first time!!!!

That chopped truck is way cool. Love the dashboard. If you rat rod it how about something besides flat black? I love the primer look (my 1st car in high school was a black primer '53 Chevy and i've had a few since) but everybody is doing flat black. My '58 step side is going to be something like flat blue with two tone blue tuck 'n roll.

And that dash would look great in some type of metal flake with a little pin striping.

Awesome truck! That dash is killer. I agree with magsnubby, flat black is way to common. I would look into the Hot Rod Flatz paint.

I agree the flat black is way too common. I've been liking the flat light brown or tan color like the rat rod is on the Hot Rod Flatz website below.... Haven't really decided on a color just yet. Most of the body work is done on the truck. The previous owner did about 90% of it. There's just a few spots here and there that need to be finished up. Like the dash it needs some sanding. The guy told me he had to cut the Impala dash because it was too wide for the truck. So the original ash tray will not fit since it is a smaller space now. I am thinking to just put a center console in to fill the space? The floor pans need a little work as well, few holes here and there.
First thing I'm working on is finding an engine for it. Trying to find a Big Block Cadi engine locally, but haven't came across one yet, may have to settle for a 454 which is fine. Once I get a drive train, I will be looking for a color!!!

Hot Rod Flatz has some pretty cool colors. That's probably what i'll use on my '58.

I'm wondering if the Desert Tan they have listed is kind of like this:

hey 65... how did they chop the back of the roof, in the pic, it almost looks like they dropped/sunk the pillar into the body, and is that a stock size rear window still ?

I don't exactly know how they did it. I know the guy said he sunk the back into the lower part of the cab, and the rear window is the stock size. I'll go out to the shop in a few days and take some internal pics of the back of the cab and post them.

that would be cool,I am researching how to chop my 60, and I have a spare bbw roof that I am going to use, so the way that your truck is done might work best for me.

Here are a few pics with a 68 camaro bucket. I'm 6'3" and I have 5.5" of head room. It fits good, I'll have to cut the gas tank mounts out though. The tracks on the seat fit well on the raised part of the floor. I may even get some 1"x2" strips of oak to raise it just a bit.

Hey all, So I bought a 1978 Custom Deluxe 10 yesterday on ebay thats about 10 miles away from me. I'm gonna rip the engine, tranny, power steering, power brakes, and front crossmember from it and throw them in the 1960. Pretty much everything else will be parted out. Its a nice truck to rip apart but hey it has a different destiny in life! I got it for $1500. Don't think its too bad of a score.

Anyways here are some pics.

I don't have any first hand experience on this, but I've been told by others that 3" is about the max you can go on a '60-'63 and still be able to cut the windshield to fit. I know I'm a ways from you but I may be able to hook you up with someone that can cut the windshield for you.....if you like.

65step where are you going to locate the air ride on this. I have a stepside two but have no idea where i will put the tanks I am going to do the rear gas tank and not the incab.

What are you planning for behind the seat...stereo ?....if not, you could always run some nicely painted air-tanks behind the seat....

Tucked under the rockers....or between the bed and frame-rails...

Just some thoughts.
