Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

Here are a couple of pictures of my son's 72 Suburban (which is still being put together). We cleaned and repainted the roof panels and added a second courtesy light behind the second seat. The panels turned out pretty well except for the front panel which was home to mice for sometime before he bought the Burb.

The first pic is of the roof panels as looking toward the rear AC unit. The second pic is of the front buckets and rear seat.

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

Jim, thats awsome, I love that green too. Not sure if im going to try to stay with the original panels or go with something custom, I know thoes bows are hardder to find than a full set of hens teeth, the ones I have are brittle.

CG, geeze, now Im gonna have night mares, poor thing... desicrated and stripped of dignity...

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

does any one have pics of big orange's burb. He used the fiberglass board that you use in showrs in your house it looked great as a head liner. All of his pics in his old posts are gone . His burb was in a few mags.

CG you don't think it might be a little bit to low to haul anything heavy.

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

I used the fiberglass board to make new headliner panels for my wifes Suburban. Not too tough to do and I think they look pretty good(the wifes happy with them too!!!)

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

JimK: that 2nd courtesy light is something I wanna do as well...your 'Burb looks killer! Is it an original bucket seat rig? If so, mind posting the build sheet so I can compare it to mine?

Id like to see what the fiberglass sheet looks like above the drivers compartment. It looks like it would be a little bit tougher to mount considering the contours of the roof in that area.

Kind of plain Jane but easy on the eyes. Fabric headliner. Dog proof seats.

It doesnt look bad at all its so thin it bends with the burb roof. Big orange use to win car shows and was in a mag one time with his burb and thats what he used to do it. Wish my hard drive wouldnt have taken a dump i use to have pics of his on it.

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

It takes a little wrestling to work into place, but the fiberglass material is flexible enough to conform to the compound bends in front.

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

I used a product called Fatmat for sound deadner. Basically the same as Dynamat but at about 1/3 the cost, roughly $1.00 per sq/ft as opposed to $3.00+ per sq/ft. It seems to work very well.

What did you use to replace the plastic bows? Mine (as so many others have said) were so brittle that they all cracked one way or another when removing them.

I wonder how hard it would be to use the fiberglass in a single sheet? If they even sell it in sheets that big...

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

Most of my bows were still OK. I found a couple of replacements here on the board and I broke one of those during installation. I found that shaving the bow a little bit where it snaps over the metal bow makes installation much easier(you don't have to press so hard to get them to pop on and they seem to stay on just fine). I was only able to find the fiberglass board in 4x8 sheets and the width of the headliner is over 4 feet so the sheets actually get installed sideways. If I remember correctly I did mine with 3 sheets. I took rough measurements and trimmed and fitted and trimmed and fitted and.........you get the idea. Once the front and rear pieces are done the two in the middle are easy. My headliner took about 10 hours to cut and install but the results are worth it. I was also going to paint the panels but the wife liked them the way they are so I left them in the fiberglass white.

Re: Id like to see your INTERIOR pics

I saw roddoors has a headliner for the burbs. Any good interior shop will have supplies to do this. They make a weather proof cardboard for door panels as well and it could be formed into the headliner shape. The original is just perforarted particle board, so thin particle board might work as well??
