Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

Here you go.

For everyone else here's the specs: Full 8" KP notch with bags in the stock location, relocated shocks and 3" blocks. I can't measure it now but I think I have 1.5-2" left in the notch when aired in this config. I kept the full 8" for clearance on my camaro sway bar and future options .

If I wanted to lose the sway bar (or run a different style) I could have cut it down 1.5-2".

Re: Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

Couple questions on those shock brackets:

How low do they hang below the axle? Are they completely vertical? i.e. if you went lower could you lean them in at the top for more travel?

Seems like if you were buried in that notch, the compressed shock would have to be like 6" tall- shortest I can find are around 9".

Re: Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

This is what I used from SD:

and upper is just the stud:

So they hang a couple inches below the axle. Yes the shocks are vertical. Maybe not the best design for max travel. They do not bottom out before the bags, but they do limit my lift. I'd like to get more lift somehow but longer extended=longer compressed so then I'd limit my drop. I may need to move the upper mounts in and go with a longer shock.

Re: Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

Yeah, I actually ordered those same ones last week and then canceled the order 'cause I didn't think they would work for me. I'll do some measuring once I get the notch in...

I ran 8" travel shocks to match the bags.

Re: Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

Go with an axle mount with this kind of effect, and hang the shock off the back of the rearend.

Go with Monroe 555003--

9.63 compressed
14.75 extended
5.13 travel

Angle them forward to the front bridge bar and kick them back off the rearend such that they are leaned 7.5" compressed (horizontal distance from eye to eye), and that'll give you 6" vertical distance from eye to eye. That is...

a = 6
b= 7.5
c= 9.63

Here's an image of the rear shock relocator kit that we sell. It's designed to drop the lower mount down and back off the axle tube, that way you'll still be able to get a decent shock selection. Plus the lower mounts can be positioned at any angle on the axle tube to help angle/offset/locate the shock to a custom configuration.

Great install pics Fry and excellent tech information on the depth of the notch with your air suspension configuration.

Those are the same dimension as the 5850 shock from a 63-82 vette rear.

Re: Notch Usage Pics for Gringo

The main reason I went with the lower mounts I did was because I wanted the shock pivots to be perpendicular to the axle for better axle articulation without shock binding. Granted it's not a rock-crawler It would be nice if they were more flexible with the mount angle like the examples you showed.
