Proper Introduction

It's about time I introduced my 72 Blazer. I've owned several Chevys and one GMC over the years, but about five years ago I got a really bad hankerin' for a Blazer. I ended up going to Iraq in the interim and putting my truck in storage, so I haven't been driving a classic Chevy for a while. This spring my wife finally said, "I think you should get your Blazer."

I found this one for $1500. It was last registered in Nevada nine years ago. It has very little rust and a mostly straight body. It needed an engine and an interior. I found a 78 GMC to donate a good 350 (with a new Edelbrock carb on it) and got the front seats out of a 98 Chevy truck and the rear out of a Suburban. I've been driving it every day this summer and it's a blast. There's still plenty of work to do, but at least I've got a good platform to build on and I'm having fun in the meantime.

Anyway, I just thought you might like to see it.

Re: Proper Introduction

Looks like a pretty good bargain to me. Nice to have a good platform to start from, isn't it.

Re: Proper Introduction

Thanks. It is nice to have something decent. I looked for a while. Since I'm in Utah and there's a lot of salt on the roads in the winter, there are a lot of trucks with serious cancer here. That's why the Nevada truck was such a good find. Of course, I had to power wash 35 years' worth of red dirt out of every part of it.

I forgot to mention, I'm into it $2100 at this point. And my wife loves it, too, which makes it even better.

had a few custom choppers before the blazer (pic below was my latest).
they're now sold much to my wife's pleasure.
had an accident which was not serious thankfully but made my wife anti-chopper.
she was in knots worrying every time i left the house.
she is now happy...and when she's happy, i'm happy

Re: Proper Introduction

Thanks. It's now a three-tone paint, since I had to replace the hood (it was too dented to fix) with a yellow one.

Re: Proper Introduction

Nice looking Blazer. How many people have asked you about your "Bronco"?

You are absolutely correct about the cancerous Blazers in Utah. I made the mistake of flying out to American Fork to look at a 72 Jimmy years ago. The exterior looked beautiful. Gloss black, three coats of clear. The floor and body mounts were rotted away though. Rocker boxes were removed "to allow the rocker panels to drain."

Good luck with your Blazer. Looks like a real clean canvas to work with.

BTW- Hey guys, what does ochre mean? I have seen it written a few times in the Blazer forum.

Nice start, welcome to the wold of topless trucks. I don't know what it is about convertibles that women love some much, but it is nice nice to have the wife support while building a rig.

John, ochre is what GM called the mustard yellow color that he owns. I have heard it called a few other names, depending on if you liked the color or not.

Re: Proper Introduction

Here's my theory (and I'm sticking oto it): What's funny about the word "ochre," which is an old French term for the clay soil that was used for making pigments for paint with the characteristic mustard yellow color ABLAZN refers to is that nobody would know what the heck it was if it wasn't for Crayola crayons!

Re: Proper Introduction

I've heard the "Bronco" one several times. I'll usually politely correct them once or twice and then just give up.

I've had people come up to me in parking lots and one just showed up at my house asking to buy it. I have to say, there are a lot of things in life that are better when you anticipate them than when you actually get them, but this isn't one of them. I just love driving this thing.

Thanks for all of the nice comments. It's great to belong to a community like this.
