Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

I haven't taken any pictures in a while. I removed the painted steel bumper for a chrome sport bumper and added 18" x 3" Gibson tips to replace the 8" tips. I am happy with my decision on the bumper. I had considered one of those big universal chrome ones. But this looks the best to me.

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

the sport bumper definately set it off. If I had one like that, I would do an engine swap, and drive the heck out of it. Good luck with it.

that didnt look like an OEM bumper in that last picture but it will definately look better on the 72. the sport bumper looks great on the 78. the 78 is a gorgeous truck.. my wife even commented on how nice it looks

Sharp truck. I had a '77 GMC in the same color. It was an unusual model though...a "Royal Sierra"?

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

I am not sure how long that painted bumper has been on there. I know the original owner towed a fishing boat with it. I figured the wheels weren't original but last time I had them off I found 1978 stamped on them. Maybe it was part of a special order. The truck was optioned out pretty good with tilt, cruise, dual tanks, and a/c. No power windows or locks though. The truck is a Scottsdale with a Bonanza package. I figured the rallys only came on a Silverado.

Also at one time it had the "Big 10" decals on the bed.

Thanks,

My wife will actually ride in my 78 Chevy but not the 72. The 72 has a long way to go before it will look very good, but I still like it.

my first wife was like that she hated trucks and all associated with them.. didnt want to ride in any of my trucks either ( except for the brand new one i had that she didnt mind but the older ones she hated)
moved onto wife #2 and this one is great. She encouraged me to go get the 82 and is helping me design it and all and wants to help build it with me
the problem now is she wants an input into the color scheme and we cant agree! lol

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

That is a gorgeous old truck you got there! I used to own a 76 K10 that had the Scottsdale package with Bonanza trim. My buddies all called it "Hoss". It lived up to it's name too! ...Joe

That bumper looks great on that truck. Check the glove compartment label, it'll tell you which bumper it was shipped with.

Good luck with the 72!

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

streetstar,

I put the manifolds on ebay as new. Hoping to get most of my money back. (Probably should have just returned them)

Here is the SPI:

Not sure what "1PA1" is? (SPEC. BRIGHT METAL W)?

Does "ORDER NO M2L842" at the bottom mean anything or do they all have that?

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

Shows how much I know. Pretty sure mine says step bumper, I guess because it was an option. Now I have to check it. I'd bet that "bright level" refers to interior trim, but it's just a guess.

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

TexasC10:

Your '78 is one fine truck; nicely optioned, and 454 1/2 tons (like '72 402's) are always an especially nice find in my opinion.

To answer your question, though, your option listing is actually referencing "special bright metal wheel covers". These full wheel covers were included with the Bonanza option package on 1/2 tons and were optional with all trim levels. In other words, your rally wheels were added at a later time than your truck's production date. The rally wheels were optional as an upgrade beyond the wheel covers, but your option list would have noted them had they been originally installed on your truck.

Again, nice truck (and so is the '72 too!).

Re: Some new pics of my 78 Scottsdale

My g/f has driven my 69 to work and other places. I dont see what the problem with women at times..."Oh I cant be seen in that old thing!" Thats when I say..."Walk Then." I am not trying to put down anyone g/f wife or anything...but I think its sad that some will do this. A friend of mine a a beautiful 57 chevy bel air sport coupe. The girl he was seeing at the time absolutely refused to ride in it. It was too old. He several times came and got the 76 Corvette I had at the time so they could go out.

You got a very nice truck...looks show room new. Once you get your 72 done all pretty like...then she may ride in it.
