When Oil Priming an Engine?

When Oil Priming an engine with a drill thru the distributor hole, I am using a drill turning in the clockwise direction. Shouldn't see oil coming up to the valve train thru the rockers? How long should I have to sping the drill before seeing oil in the cyl heads?

Re: When Oil Priming an Engine?

it depends on the primer used// the best is the old distributor because its got the machined piece that allows the oil to flo up to the valve train// by just inserting a rod to drive the oilpump without that machined fitting oil wont get to rockers

Re: When Oil Priming an Engine?

Thanks CDowns, I am using an old dist with the cam gear removed, turning it in the clockwise direction like the dist turns. How long do I have prime or run the drill before I can see oil coming to the top of the heads at the rockers? Thanks again.

Standard rotation is clockwise as viewed from above.

I'd expect to see pressure in less than 5 minutes, oil at the rockers in less than 15. It's pretty hard work for a 3/8-style drill, especially with an HV pump.

I imagine about a week or so, then go to the garage and use the drill--after that around 15 minutes for the rockers---need to work until all the rockers are oiling
