Very Honky Horn

Hi All,

I recently took an aftermarket wheel off my 69 GMC 1/2 ton, and put an original 72 wheel on. I put the metal plate over in (the one with three holes, and 3 slots in it.) and then put the little piece with the 3 plastic isolators in it on top. Then I screwed the 3 little screws in, but I can't tighten them fully or the horn starts going. Leaving them loose makes the horn button wobbly.

I thought I had it just the right tightness, but then I turned the wheel and the horn started honking!!

Anyways, am I missing some springs, or is it just a matter of leaving the screws loose ?

Hmm, found a pic of the horn assembly, maybe it makes more sense than my explanation.

I am glad you got it figured out, but could you do me a favor and let me in on how you managed the installation of the horn and cap. I am faced with the same issue. Thanks.

Re: Very Honky Horn

I had/have the same problem. In the pic above, it goes in in the same order shown. The piece in the person's left hand goes first. It should have a rubber isolator that goes around the edge. It seems to me a lot of people are missing the isolator, as I am. The 2nd metal piece goes on next. Watch how you put that in because it has a notch in it which matches up to the horn cap. If it's wrong you will have to redo it all again. The plastic piece goes on last and you screw it all together. I'm still having a prob w/ mine (isolator ring maybe?) so I just disconnected the horn for now until I feel like messing with it again.
