PTO anyone

I have an old pto , bolts to side of sm-465 tranny. Does anyone have one of these setups. Any suggestions , good and bad. This thing could power a mega winch.

Re: PTO anyone

It would run a PTO winch, but you would have to have the tranny in neutral and modulate the line speed with the throttle.

The best set up would be to find a PTO that runs off of the transfer case, so you could use gears to change line speed, and could still drive if needed. You could also use reverse to spool the cable back in. Of course, there are some reversible PTO's, but they are harder to find.

Re: PTO anyone

Or hydraulic off the PTO and a Hydraulic winch because they are cheap and easier to route than driveshafts.
Also you would have the option of swapping the winch to the back when you get the urge to winch in reverse.

Re: PTO anyone

I have a PTO winch on my truck and I can tell you it's a "hoss" of a winch setup. I have used it several times but you know when you it's hooked up, something has to give!! 1969 GMC is right, you can operate it at different line speeds depending on what gear you have the transmission in. Also the rpm's of the motor. I also have a manuel throttle which helps to keep rpm's constent. Here's some pics. Randy
