Are two gas tanks important to you?

Just wondering how important having two gas tanks were to those of you who are considering a purchase? Would you pass if it only had one? I'd be interested in hearing what you think about this. Thanks.

Two tanks are completely unimportant to me. The fuel tank switching system seems to be like the power windows and locks on these trucks, it rarely works.

I have 2 tanks and was told when I bought it both worked, but the bed the PO put on the truck didn't have 2 fuel doors, so he just taped the neck of the spare tank off. That's how it's stayed, just one more thing that could go wrong IMHO.
Plus, even though I go through the same amount of gas either way, I'd still rather fill one tank at a time than two.

I travel over 9 hours to see my folks. Yes two tanks are important driving across Texas! Now that the ZZ4 is installed, I may need a third!!

I wish mine had two tanks. I hope to add a second one eventually. Only having a 180 mile range sucks.

my 76 and 86 had one tank the 82 has two. being gas prices are high its sticker shock when you fill up both but with the lack of gas mileage from these monsters, i prefer the two tanks to one BUT i wont discount a truck cause it has only one

My old '77 long bed had dual 20gal tanks, but I usually just ran off one side. Filling both tanks was great for range, however it was a huge ouch to the wallet.

The new '86 short bed only has a single 16gal tank. I'm sure my range will be pretty limited with the 454 engine, but this truck won't be a highway cruiser. And hey, it should weigh a lot less without that extra tank right?

My Daily Driver (for now) has dual tanks and I use them all the time. I generally switch from left to right. It comes in really handy when the prices drop dramatically. I have a 16 gallon storage tank for the cheaper gas.

If I was looking at a truck and it didn't have dual tanks, it would sway me in my purchase though.

I believe my LWB has dual 20 gallon tanks ? I only have use of one right now, the previous owner was nice enough to let me know that the passenger side has a hole in it. The plan is to get another tank in the passenger side, replace both level sending units, and replace all the hoses.

If we are talking about a very nice rust free truck here, I could care less if it had 2 tanks. Seems like most above base model LWB trucks came with dual tanks.

i need to gas tanks, but have only had one that works,,i have to fill up around 125 miles or so to make sure i dont run out..i hate the way they are on both sides of the truck,, at least ford got it right by putting both fill ups on one side of the truck..

when I first got my 82 with dual tanks the filler hoses at the gas station would extend far enough to fill both sides without moving. Now they dont. Not sure why they changed them but it was a PITA. I was initially working on a filler for the passenger tank on the driver side. Never got around to finishing it...

I've had two of these trucks (82-83), both had dual tanks. I bought the second one because it had dual tanks and some other things. Very important to me as well. When I drive it down to Mom's, it's 450 miles; It takes both tanks to do it. So actually I don't have to stop for gas.... David

I sure do like dual tanks for road trips ... fill em both up, don't stop for nuthin', piss in a bottle if I have to and here I go!

I only have one tank, 12 gallons, good for about 200 miles straight freeway run at 2000 rpms - very time I go camping out in the woods I have to make sure I fill up before I hit the dirt roads, and prices at remote gas stations usually are anything but decent. I have two 2-gallon plastic jugs that would give me about 40-50 miles extra at high engine loads. Having another 12-gallon tank would be nice, but then again gasoline jugs are cheap too.
