Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

Maybe I was the last one to find this out. I read on the back of the official Missouri Historical Vehicle plate application. Standard, Standard personalized, or my favorite. The plate actually from the year of vehicle. "What? I know where one is." I said to myself. I drove over and bought it for a mear 5 bucks. I get it home and start to wonder if I needed one for the front and the back like the new cars have. I have been pulled over for only having one. I decide to call the DMV. She states to me that trucks in MO only had 1 tag up until the early seventies and the Law reads that it must be as the same year as vehicle which one would make correct. Kinda waiting to be pulled over from the totally different Missouri plate but what the heck. School bus yellow and the same age as me and my truck. I did find one that had 67 in the big numbers on the 'bay but this one was litterly three minutes away.

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

hummmmm, intersting. I was pulled over numerous times (when I lived in MO) for having only one plate in the rear. got so many warnings from the Sheriff's dept they pretty much knew me by name.

you should give MSHP a call in Jefferson City to verify though. I can ask a friend of mine whose a trooper if he knows, or knows the statute as well.

Usually, the highway patrol is the strictest about codes, so if they say okay, then I'd go for it.

very cool idea though!!

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

The Historic tag is somewhat different as you can only roll 1000 miles yearly plus unlimited miles to shop and show within a 100 mile radius. Yes, I did call both DMV and the Troopers. The DMV helped with plates and the Troopers know about seat belt laws. My truck had no seat belts. My 5 year old cannot ride in it until he has as at least a lap belt holding a kid's seat with shoulder harness. I find nothing wrong with that and until he is 7 or 70lbs. I will keep him safe.

You can register old tags in Alabama, and they only require one on any tag, but I know that doesn't help you any.

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

yep, my son is banned from my truck until I get 2 new shoulder belts and one new lap belt. my truck is void of any options, so shoulder belts didn't come with my rig either.

yes, you have to run 2 tags on most vehicles. thought farmer who owned a certain amount of acreage could just run a front. sound like you did your homework.

In Kansas, you only have to run a rear plate. thank God!!!

Oh yeah. hate to hijack, but can anyone tell me the deal with California "blackplates"? Were they issued when the car/truck was new in the 60's and can be registered with that vehicle as long as it stays in Cali??

Google it. That is where I found the appropriate phone numbers.

Wow! I wonder if Kansas has that. Currently running a antique vehicle tag at $17.00 a year!

OK, you do know. Kansas only runs one plate anyway. In Missouri you just pay about $38 and never have to do anything but pay the taxes on the beast and insure it. Same plate forever and NO yearly Inspection. Don't worry, I won't abuse it. I like to keep my ride totally dependable and safe or I don't ride in it. Big fine if you crash and "forgot to check the brakes." The car owner is responsible more than anyone.

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

Kansas has that law as well, I just moved from there, the cool thing that you can do is file for a collector permit, which allows you to get titles on vehicles (without insurance, registration or plates) it basically says that you are a restorer or hobbier and are using the truck for parts to complete and restore other trucks. Cost me like $50 bucks but saved me a ton with parts trucks and titles and insurance

It use to be 10.00 in virginia but this year they went up to 50.00 and you have to prove that it will pass inspection

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

Nice! In Virginia I have run vintage tags on all my cars and trucks. They just add that finishing touch to the ride.

Talking Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

here in virginia they let you run an old set of plates that must be the correct year , but I took it a step further and figured out that in the 60's truck's had the letter T added to the plate number where as a car just had number's , and also in my county you had to have a county tax tag , so I found the correct plates !!! the county tax plate too !!! ,cause I'm crazy like that !!
get a lot of question's about the county tag ,,,,,

Re: Show Me State vintage tags FYI.

Hey Bishop, Nice sounding truck. Saw your sig. video
Hey Virginia, I like that black beauty. I found a few MO tags with the "added on" riveted tag. None of them fit mine year-wise. Nice job. You ARE crazy about it. I Love it. I forgot to mention that in MO you have to keep a log book of the miles you traveled and to where, shop, show, or pleasure. I am sure mine will always be going to the shop. I can't afford the gas this baby can drink any way so it shouldn't be hard to keep it real.

Thanks Dave, it sounds real good rolling down the road. It has a 2-1/2" flowmaster setup on it.
