Starter Problem?? Where are you guys buying your starters?

My 1 ton had an issue where the starter wouldn't disengage. When I would turn the key, the starter would continue to crank, even after I turned the key off and even after the engine turned over.

At first, I was hoping it might be the ignition switch. The guy at Autozone thougth ignition switch, so I installed a new ignition switch today, started the truck up and same problem. I had to disconnect the battery while the engine was trying to turn over to cut it off.

So, I guess it's the starter. This is probably the original starter on this truck. It's only a 60K original mile truck. Where are you guys buying your starters from. Just NAPA, Autozone, etc.??

Thanks.

My guess is the solenoid. The best place I have found for starters, and alterators is a local electric motor rebuild shop. Much better parts, and specialized advice. It is all they do.

I got my current starter from Canadian Tire. It's a Reman unit by Champion. Seems to do it's job so far.

words cannot express how much I agree. the local guys do such a good job and actually care about their work. it usually costs about the same as a boxed unit from the parts store. many times they have them sitting on the shelf so you dont need to wait.

Hit the local auto electric place, ask around and find a good one, then stick with them.
