64 3/4 ton suspension questions
I have a 64 3/4 ton that i want to upgrade to disc brakes. I know i have to convert to 1/2 ton suspension in order to be able to use that disc brake kits.
would it be better if i find a 1/2 ton from end and replace the 3/4 ton front end and then convert to disc brakes using one of the aftermarket kits? or would it be better to use a front suspension setup from a newer model chevy? If so, what years can i use on a 64? i want to do a complet crossmember spindle to spidle swap. |

Re: 64 3/4 ton suspension questions
There are eight lug disk brake conversion kits available. I believe Classic Performance Parts sells this kit. You may be better served to find a C10, if you plan to retro the front and rear suspension, in essence, giving you C20 with C10 running gear. Obviously, it is your time and money, so you should do what you like.

Re: 64 3/4 ton suspension questions
i forgot to mention that one of the reason i want to swap out the front is because i want to get rid of the 8 bolt pattern...thanks for the find on the 8 lug disc brakes kit LILred, it would have saved me a lot of trouble if i would be keeping the 8 lug setup. But what years will bolt up easiest to a 64 3/4 ton?

Re: 64 3/4 ton suspension questions
My customer (second link below) also converted to an 8-lug dropped spindle disk kit on his chassis.
He decided to leave this build an 8-lug for towing reasons...as well as the fact that there are some really nice 8-lug wheels available now.

Re: 64 3/4 ton suspension questions
any one know what years will bolt up to a 64? i know a 71 or 72 rear end will bolt up to a 64, but will the 71 72 front crossmember also bolt up to it? or do i have to look for a later year?

Re: 64 3/4 ton suspension questions
Yes it will bolt up. I recently put a 87 front end out of a 1500 Sububan in a 64 C-10, it was a beautiful fit' I only had to drill one hole on either side and elongate an existing hole to match up (you could not have put a sheet of paper between the new crossmember and the frame rail). I used the 87 motormounts but had to cut the tops and fabricate due to a difference in rail height, also had to dtill holes for the fixed end of the drag link because the 87 ran in an opposit direction from the 64; and, you have to relocate the frame keeper for the flex brake hose.
