396 Hp?

Does anyone know what the HP rating on a 396 BB in a 1969 GMC is? I'm fairly sure my engine isn't stock because the serial number on the engine has been ground out. . . Isn't that sometimes done on a modified motor? In fact there's no markings at all on the motor, but hard core GMC buffs have said it was a GM BB. The previous owner really didn't know anything about it. He was a staright up collector and surprisingly, knew very little about the truck. He "thought" it was a 396 that had been bored out to a 402 (?) Of course it has a Endlebrock intake, Holly carb, headers, and flowmasters on her. . . The door plate DOES say it came with a "396" so I'm assuming that's what's in it, so I'm just curious what the OEM HP rating was. I'll put it on a Dyno next summer. It's my first "muscle" vehicle and man, it flat out screams (and sounds good doing it!!)

Thanks guys. This is really a great board. . .

Re: 396 Hp?

A little hard to read but this might help if your engine was stock...

It is for 1970 trucks but shouldn't be much different than 1969.

Re: 396 Hp?

If the deck was shaved the numbers would get planed off.

Re: 396 Hp?

Here's a little better shot of a somewhat blurry zerox of the original 1969 dyno tests you can use as a baseline.
