Dear moderators....we need a new "of the month" category....either DAOTM (dumb @ss of the month) or MOTM (moron of the month)!

I hereby nominate myself for this new category.

....so last night I'm messing with some wheel spacers on the front wheels of my truck cuz I'm not happy with the offset (too anal). I know they aren't the best solution but they are only .25" and I'm not spending $700 bucks to correct .25".

I knew that I would need to replace wheel studs with slightly longer ones cuz the spacers reduced the amount of "grab" of the lugs by too much, but for just around the parking lot it would be OK...after all I did get them to tighten down.........WRONG.

After a few zips around the lot, I'm making a slow left hand turn when all of a sudden the left front corner takes a big dip followed by the sound of metal against asphalt!...I new immediately what happened, got out of the truck slowly, and inched my way aroung the front to survey the damage....SON OF A........! Folded up the rear edge of the fender...damn! (actual verbiage was more substantial, colorful, and accompanied by much body language as well). That looked to be the worst of it, but I still had to roll a floor jack out a couple hundred feet, figure out how to jack it up...couple more trips back to the shop to get some wood blocks...it's fricken dark now...studs are screwed up, so I'm have a helluva time getting lugs back on.....GOD I hope nobody sees me!...just wanna get it back in the shop and go home.

I don't remember the drive home and the wife said I just curled up in a ball in the corner and was unresponsive the rest of the night! My psychologist said I should share my experience cuz it will make me feel better...right.

...and no pics cuz I refuse to document my stupidity any further!

I hope this photo will ease your mind that you are not the only dumb a$$ out there -- check the bedside behind the back wheel- lack of a center cap is a dead giveaway too ---- very similar situation and conditions to your event --- except i had the Creedence cranked so loud i didnt even hear the wheel wobbling around against the brake drum

I think to truly get past this terrible event in your life, and move on. You must post a pic. Until then, you further subject yourself to deep emotional scarring which will effect and cloud your judgement causing you to go to the dark side, adding a 6" lift from stock height.

I am sorry this happened, it obvious how much you've fretted over making this truck as perfect as can be. A little body work, some paint and longer studs and you're back on the road.

No pics.....I already went out during lunch and starting "reversing" the damage.

Seriously the damage isn't too bad, but I do have to take it off, do a little body work, and refinish it hoping I can keep body work away from the door edge side as much as possible so I don't have any color match problems.

......and I HATE doing crap twice!

Certainly with some of the parking lot blasts I was making, it could've been ALOT worse!!

LESSON LEARNED!......least till I do something else stupid!

If you were getting new studs anyhow, and you were just putting the spacers on there with those studs to see how it looked until you got the new studs put in...

Why the need to drive it around the parking lot in the first place?

Since you have the lower trim, you can fix mask and paint the lower corner, put the trim back on, and no one will ever know....

Hadn't "zipped" it around the parking lot for a few weeks and I had an "itch".....I obviously shouldn't have "scratched"!

How I wish it were that easy...gonna have to refinish to whole fender which will have to come off because that's just the right way to do it.

Last night I got the damage pretty much straightened out and put a little filler on it.

So heres one for me. i was cutting some metal yesterday. I was using a angle grinder with a cut off wheel.Works pretty good....then it happened...the wheel came apart. Where did part of it go?? Right into my left nut!!..I hope i can say that here. So a little jumping around..and going into the house to see how much damage was done...I came out ok...but cut down there.

Any member of the male species who knows what a cut off wheel can do will "CRINGE"...(make that weird face) when they read that and get to the "nut" part.

All of a sudden that damage on my truck seems less severe!

NOTE TO SELF....always where a cup when using a cut off wheel!

Jim that exactly what I thought when that happened. I had on safty glasses...heavy carhart coat...heavy gloves....what did I forget??

Put me down for the DAOTD award.
Got me a set of those fancy, smancy wheel dollies that go under the wheels so you can move yer vehicle where ever ya want it. Thought, hey, this will be cool in such a confined place.(garage) Put them under my truck wheels and daggone, the first time I went to move it, I put an oilcan dent in my freshly painted new front fender.

(forgot truck weighs 4100 lbs.) Took dollies out from under the wheels, threw them out to the curb, and went back to using floor jack. Was able to get most of the dent out. Don't look real close at drivers front fender.
