What's the correct oil filter for a 369 BB? (1969) I think I got the wrong one from Authzone. . . It's a Fram PH30. . Fram's website says use a PH5. I took a Bosch 3510 off. .

I think the ph-30 is the short version of the ph-5 chevy spin on filter.

In Wix, 51061 is the long one, 51069 is the short one. I personally wouldn't use a Fram. Plenty of horror stories to be found around the board, and in my own experiences.

IMHO stay away from Fram! I used to use them regularly. If you were to cut a new one open and look inside you would see a pretty cheap paper filter!! I recomend Wix filters I notices you said 369?? Do you mean 396? If so here is Wix part number 51061. If you were to cut this one open and compare the two you would see exactly what I am talking about. Just my .02

Use AC PF-35.

they gave you the wrong one alright... it's a fram.
I have a NAPA GOLD filter (rebadged Wix) and a Fram of the same style (small block chevy) both cut up in my tool box... you'd be AMAZED at the differences.

any pics to save us the work of cutting these open. I would most likely hurt myself trying it.

I went through the same thing, went to NAPA got the "NAPA GOLD" which is the bigger one. I had just bought my 396 engine a had taken off the filter and went to Auto Zone got a Fram one took it home and then it doned on me how much shorter it was that the one I took off.

the only filter I use is fram I use the air filter the oil filter and the fuel filter and it works good on mine never had a problem with it. now i use the napa gold ones. but a filter is a filter it keeps out harmful stuff that could mess up the motor. then my auto tech teacher told me that advance motor oil is the exact same thing as havoline and that valvoline is the same as napas oil that has to be BS but it aint. the tech also said that if get the motor hot to change the oil is better than when its cool cause the oil runs out a whole lot quicker when its hot.

70GMC, back in the 30's, the oils is oil and filters are filters may have held true. However, nothing is further from the truth in todays oils and filters.
I have photos and notes somewhere... I'll see if I can't locate them.

I'm due for an oil change as well, and I have always used Fram oil & air filters just because it's a brand I know. So are the Fram air filters crap as well?
