sm465 and NP205 questions

I just pulled 465/205 out of frame so that frame could be cleaned/blasted and painted. I pulled bell and trans/case as a complete unit and then broke them down out side the frame. There appears to be a gasket of some type between adapter and trans and another between adapter and t/case where can I find these new- previous owner used rtv. 2nd question - what is the easiest way to put these parts back in. I am buying a new motor and the clutch is goig to be replaced as well (frame off) but these things are heavy! Any advice is welcomed. Thanks 71 super- p.s. I am a 4x4 newby- everything previously has been 2wd.

rent a good transmission jack.......its worth it!!! You should then be able to lift it all up at once and move it around enough to fit it all where you want it. put the cross members on the tranny first.

A........

Re: sm465 and NP205 questions

as for the gasket, you will probably only find them in a set with all the other gaskets that you would need for a trans rebuild. That's probably why the PO used rtv, didn't want to spend the money on a complete gasket kit. I just bought one for mine because I was tearing mine down and going thru it. Seem like it was in the neiborhood of $20
dieseleater- there is a trany crossmember for a sm465/np205 set up? thought the only member was what the adapter bolts to.

I use an engine hoist to lift them in to position from inside the truck I find its easier then a trans jack is and nothing will be in your way under neath when your lining every thing up on the engine.

X2, makes for an easy install.

As for the gaskets, I cut my own out of cork material.

2 crappy transmission jacks works pretty well too.
