Hey guys I was hoping to toss my V8 in tonight but I was wondering if there is a difference between the V8 towers and I6 engine towers? Thanks

I used the I6 towers to install my SBC. They set the motor back about an 1-1/2 or 2 inches and maybe a little lower. I measured this once but don't remember exactly. It makes an HEI a little tight back there but no issues. I wanted the motor back as far and low as possible for center of gravity reasons.

The 292 uses staggered mounts and won't work.

Far as I know that is about the only difference between the I6 and SB towers is how the holes are made to where they bolt onto the frame.

As mentioned if you use the I6 towers it will set the engine back. Your distributor will be tight, but should clear fine.

I did the same thing, only after I had my inline 6 towers powder coated. There is the thread I started with some pictures of v8 towers installed. I hope it helps. The motor sat a little too close to the firewall for me, so I bought V8 towers.

I have a 305 in mine on I6 towers. I was hoping to switch them out. Anyone know if this will cause any problem anywhere else? i.e. tranny crossmember or driveshaft length

Towers are completely different. V-8 towers won't mount in the I-6 location and vice versa. They mount at different points on the suspension crossmember (the v-8 to the front and the I-6 to the rear) and because of the crossmember mounts, they are angled/shaped differently which makes them not interchangable between the two locations.

BUT you can mount a v-8 in the I-6 position. As stated above the dizzy is just really close to the firewall.

Switching them out will require you moving the engine a couple inches forward, which would mean a lengthened driveshaft. If you have a manual I don't know if you can do this, because you can't move the 3 speed crossmember forward. If you have an auto or a manual with the rear crossmember, the crossmember will need to move forward.
