Back-Halving My frame
So I started my new job a few weeks back and made a new friend. The guy I have been working with is very good with a torch and a welder, not to mention has built more Super Stock cars than I can list here. He crew chiefed for awhile in the NHRA Circuit and beat(granted it was back before Jegs had all their money) the Jegs car everytime he raced it.
The point of all that is that I have a mentor that is ready and willing to teach me all sorts of things. He's got me pretty decent with the torch and hopefully will start the welding soon(The beauty of all this is that we are both getting paid while he teaches me). We were benchracing a few ideas at work and the subject came up that my frame was bent. Don asked me why I hadn't back-halved it yet, which i responded with "I don't know how". He called bull**** and told me that since he's done it before on his race cars and for a couple buddies that he was going to show me. So it looks like my ride will be getting a full 2x4 backhalf with latter bars and possible airide. He's got 2 engines and a frame of his own to build(which I'm going to watch and learn on) but hopefully if he's good to his word, we'll start on mine after I get some cash around the first of the year. In the meantime, I'm pulling my engine out in the next couple of weekends so that I can get a bigger cam in there to replace the one that got wiped. So after all of that, my question is this: Has anyone seen a back-halved 67-72? Any articles/pictures that I could see would be helpful. The more ideas the better.

Re: Back-Halving My frame
There are tons of trucks here that have been backhalved. I am sure you will get alot of response. I don't have any pics of them or i would help. Good luck and it is easier than it looks. Just rember measure twice cut once.

That is looking very nice so far! I like the curved square tube but I would like to see gusset plates over your joints if this is being built for a driver! Show trucks are fine with smooth frames but drivers need a bit more help in opinion.

This truck isn't mine, just to let people know. I just posted them for an idea.

Re: Back-Halving My frame
Thanks guys for all the responses and help. Fnlow, your truck is sick beyond belief. That low is a little too low for me but nonetheless it looks amazing.
Mkcustoms, thanks for those pictures it really helps me get an idea of what I want to do. Now for the next question:Rokcrln, what do you mean by gusset plates over the joints? Mine will be a driver so this is something i must take in to consideration thanks

Re: Back-Halving My frame
He is talking about something like this. This is what i did for mine. I have seen people weld on metal shaped as diamonds, straight pieces, and all sorts of designs. I went for more of a simple look. What it does is reinforces the weld joint so it is very strong. If you think about it after you weld the frame together and you grind the weld down to smooth it out you really don't have too much weld left.
