Stock tilt column shift lever install.. Help!!

So I am sure I am overlooking he obvious but I NEED HELP!

Since I drove the only shifters I ever installed were moved to the floor...

Now I am putting together a stock tilt column and can not figure out how to get the shifter far enough to get the roll pin back in... I tried pushing that little spring everyway possible...

I know one of you can help! Thanks!!

Re: Stock tilt column shift lever install.. Help!!

Are you pulling back on the shift lever as you attempt to insert it?

You have to clear the detent notches as you install the lever.

I have not had this as a problem but if you put the housing in neutral it should give you a wider inside space to hit.

Re: Stock tilt column shift lever install.. Help!!

Just did this myself. If your shift lever has a round ball on the end that goes into the column you have the wrong lever for tilt. I just ordered a new one from lmc and they sent me the wrong one. When I called back to ask them of course I was the stupid one. (still waiting on a call back from supervisor) The one that goes with a 70 to 72 tilt column DOES NOT HAVE a ball on the end.
I hope this helps.
