New trim on the 68 chevy dually, GMC longhorn mut.

I thought I would deviate from the original post and do a fresh one.....and yes I know I have conflicting trim for the years.....but I like it. A few more parts (tail light trim) and Im back on the front suspension and then the interior. Im leaving the bed to last......Who's got the cheapest bed wood kits for a Longhorn?

Thanks "UNCLE"....the tailgate band looks just fine!!!!

Awesome! I can't wait to see it pulled outside so we can really see what its gonna look like. I can tell the front end is higher, but I'm not feeling regular rims on the front. It needs the Budd's back on there, man!!

Ive only lifted one side........probably do the other this weekend. I got it to
5" of rake and I will loose 1.5" more when I put smaller tires on the rear.

I have had about 8 people look at it with bud style on one side and normal rim on the other. So far its 100% normal rim. My plan is to mount up 2 of each and change them as the mood hits me.

Of course it's your truck and you gotta do it like you want it, but its looks like a 3/4 ton Longhorn that someone slapped dual wheels on the rear with normal front wheel IMO. The Budds have much heavier duty look to me. You mentioned you didn't want to run spacers, but I would think the stress put on the front wheel bearings with the factory budd spacer on the drum would be worse than spacers. I have run 6061 billet aluminum spacers on the rear my '69 C-30 car hauler for years now with much more weight that you could ever put a pickup. I would not be afraid of them at all, and I am going to run them my '67 C-30 because I agree with you that in factory form, the front wheels do set in a little much. Just something else to think about.

A few new pics.....

Front end is complete...trim, bumper and lift sprigs. The interior needs the under dash AC put back in and some door panels and knobs.....Its now time for mirrors, the rear slider the bed wood, wheels and tires.

I bought these off Ebay pretty reasonably. They were takeoffs from a 90- something Chevy dually. You will have to go with 14mm studs though to use the lug covers that hold them on. If you ever want a set of 1 piece 16" wheels, let me know! I have tons of them!

Did you narrow the rear end to get it to fit under the bed like that?

Re: New trim on the 68 chevy dually, GMC longhorn mut.

Man, I like the newer black wheels. I am working on getting a '65 1 ton with 66000 og miles. 292 4sp. Very long box though, I think I'll have it cut down to the 8' box and try to do something with the rust areas. I thought about putting a 67-68 cab and doghouse on it but finding a rust free one around our areas is pretty near impossible. I like them better than the earlier 60's. I've been told the frames are the same but cab mounts may need to be moved. Anyone know for sure.

Re: New trim on the 68 chevy dually, GMC longhorn mut.

I don't know if the frames are the same or not, but it shouldn't be hard to put the 67-72 body on it. My 67 C-30 had a long wheelbase too, and I had to cut it down to put the 8' box on it. I used a rearend out of '97 C3500 dually pickup because I wanted a dually with rear hips - although I really like the way 72Freak's turned out!

Re: New trim on the 68 chevy dually, GMC longhorn mut.

Ok guys........its dirty, dusty and still not finished.......but the mirrors are on, wheels and tires are on, interior is done except painting the shifter, tinted rear slider and mounting the AC unit. I still have to do something about the bed wood.......but I did drive it today!!!!!

Also missing the rear bumper, hitch and I ordered and am going to try some 1 3/4 flexable fenders flares.........I am probably going to give in to and order some wheel spacers for the front.

For those who have not seen the original post......the last picture is what we started with.

That bad boy looks great David!! I agree that the wheel flares will help it out. I hope this summer I'll be done with mine and we can get a few side by side shots. Maybe we can talk see ten into shooting them!

I am debating like you mentioned on the wheels and not sure which ones I like best. I kind of lean toward the painted wheels, at least today I do

Beautiful job on the truck!
