Question Installing Older Cab

Hi,
I need to replace my 1986 K20 truck cab. Could I use a 1978 C10 as a replacement? Thank you.

Re: Installing Older Cab

Yes. You need cab mounts to match the frame. The older front clip will work if you change the wiper transmission and cowl panel to the older style. You might also have to do some wiring mods.

Re: Installing Older Cab

if the older cab is a 2 wheel drive you will also have to cut the floor board out so that you can fit the 4 wheel drive hump in there

Would the 86 front clip fit the 78 cab? Thanks.

It'll fit and work, but you will have to do some modifications to the cowl for the hood hinges and cowl panel to fit. Not really that big of a deal though. ...Joe

Re: Installing Older Cab

Oh yeah, you will need the wiper shafts for the 86 clip as they are longer than the 78. Just pull all of the parts off of the 86 cab such as the hood hinges, cowl panel, wiper shafts, for use on the 78 cab. You can use the old 86 cab to make a template of where you will need to cut and drill holes for the hood hinges and cowl panel. The wiper shafts are a direct replacement. ...Joe
