1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
Not mine, nor do I have anything to do with this.
1977 Chevy Silverado - $10000 Looks good from the small pictures but $10k is a little rich for my blood. Ken, here is the one you were kicking yourself for missing...

At a dealer too. If its not consigned then I bet you could get it for almost half that with cash in hand.

Why does all of the super clean, low mile stuff have to be such funky colors?

But if I found a truck in pristine condition (that I could afford) that color would be the least of my worries. I actually kind of like it. Ken had posted a picture of a truck he thought about buying before he bought his black one that was in similar condition IIRC. Except it was two-tone copper and tan. I thought that one looked better than this one color wise and I am not a fan of tan AT ALL.

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
Actually the one I posted was a truck I was looking at when I had what "seemed to be" a serious buyer for my 77.
I agree it's not my 1st choice for a color, but I'm really glad that it's no where near me. I have a couple of ideas that would look really good on that color...

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
My philosophy is that everything around my house is for sale except my dog, my daughter, and my wife. There are days that my wife is in question...
Actually this goes back a ways. I was getting ready to spend the money on putting a new motor in it. I had a friend of a friend that was very interested in it, but we never could agree on a price. In anticipation of the potential of suddenly being truck-less, I ran across the 78 pictured above. Fortunately it was in upstate New York so I never went to look at it.

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
I concur.
But that two-tone cream and copper looks just about perfect. Wouldn't paint it that color if it were something else, but I would jump on that truck if it were reasonably priced. And I had some extra cash?

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
If the truck wer closer to me and it didnt have the tie downs attached to the bedside , I would probably make an offer of about $8500 and work from there a little . I am sure there is a lot of bodywork needed to straighten the bedsides and matching the paint would be tough . It would look good in my garage though . Frank

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
I'm curious what everyone feels would be a fair price?
Let's assume it's as clean (or cleaner) as it looks. It really does have 50k miles, been garage kept, and has never been driven in the rain/sleet/snow or salt. Lets also say that is loaded with most or all options. What should this truck bring? Not cheap, not expensive, somewhere in between? Edit- Lets also pretend it does not have those hideous tie downs. (Thanks Frank)

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
Personally I don't think the price is an issue, for the most part. You would be hard pressed to duplicate it for that price, and it's only original once. For me, the color is an issue. Spending that much money, it would have to be a color I liked. Of course, this is just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Are you assuming that the bed needs work because of the tie downs or are you seeing something in the pictures that I don't? As for fair price... thats tough. I see trucks for sale from time to time that say "we all know what these are worth when done". They are all some project in the middle that have a TON of work left. Its not like its a Hill's truck or something. And they are asking more than I would consider paying even if it were done. I also see trucks like the one in question here that have ads that say "the prices of these trucks are going through the roof" but the only price that is through the roof is the one they are selling? If this truck is nicer than the pictures tell than I would think $7500 would be "fair". If there is NO rust, paint still holds a shine, minimal dings, $5000-7500. Any rust at all ~$3500. If it had rust I would be looking at it as a low mile driver and I would drive it just like it were a low mile 90-something truck. This is just my opinion. Someone looking at this truck as a show and shine truck might have a very different opinion. If their intention was to buy it and keep the miles low they would feel differently than I do.

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
My first choice would be a truck with a more "conventional" color. I happen to like orange two tone -- but from there i would look for black, red, white, etc.
If i got better pictures supporting the fact that this truck is "like new" - i would consider 10k (but would rather pay 7500) and would feel better about it if the tie downs were factory. Come on guys - a used '03 Silverado brings 10k, and this truck has much more "character" than that. Although with less utility value - because i wouldnt be loading engine blocks in the back of a 50k survivor |

Everybody on this forum seems to think these trucks are only worth about half or even less of what they go for in my area.

I paid $4500 for my bone stock 73 back in 1995 (see pic below)...it looked as good or better than this truck in question. Yes, it needed some work here and there, and yes I doscovered some shady bodywork recently when I stripped it down...but I didn't have to replace/weld in any new metal (it was from AZ), the chassis was spotless, and everything was there and very presentable. Had I started with a $2000 MN truck, I would for sure had well over $4500 into it just to get it looking like it does in the pics below (factor in labor, parts, paint, time, etc). If this truck looks as good in person as it does in the pics, 10K is not out of line and fair IMO.

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
I sold my black 78 for 10 grand around 2 years ago . I would not take any less than 7 grand for my tan 78 . That truck is worth 10 G'S in my opinion even with the color . I actually like odd colors . Makes it stand out . Think about this . Once you could order almost any color combo and any color interior . Now GM has tan , dark tan , and charcoal . How boring is that ? A 98 white extended cab truck with red or blue interior is way more impressive than the color combos you can get now . My vote is that the truck is a 10 G truck (without the tiedowns) all day long .Frank

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
assuming its everything it says it is.i would think 7500 to 8k is a little more realistic.plus i believe its dealer offered.which means it has a built in barganing factor.however,if i'm wrong, what the hey. we all our benifiting from owning an appreciating in value truck

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
I look at it this way. If it were an all option, all original, rust free, low mileage truck, and the only issue was the wrong color, it would still be worth 10 grand to me, provided that I had 10 grand in my pocket at the time.
If you figure up how much it would cost to build one from scratch, you'd spend way more than that. I figure that it would cost at least 5 grand just in bodywork and paint alone at a minimum to do it up right. Then you have all the mechanical parts on top of that, and all of the little things that need to be replaced such as interior and texterior trim, upholstery, etc. I'd say that $8500-$9000 would be a steal no matter what color it is, although there are some colors such as green that I wouldn't buy no matter how nice the truck was. When they are that original I wouldn't buy it and then change the color to my liking. There's just something not right about doing that. ...Joe

Re: 1977 Silverado SWB - 50k original
There are still some low mileage trucks out there, and some really good deals. I guess the truck is really only worth what the person who shows up with the money buys it for.

The price isn't out of line. I may not pay it. You may not, but chances are there's someone somewhere who would. When do you find a 30 year old original vehicle w/ 50K miles?

10k truck. Color hurts value. This is of course assuming it's in very clean condition and all original. Not everything has to work perfectly, it just has to be there...
