tilt wheel and shifter

Please tell me which tilt columns I can put in a '70 C-10. I want to retain the shifter and don't mind if the ignition switch is on the column also but don't know if that will work.

Lightbulb Re: tilt wheel and shifter

Any factory 1970-72 truck tilt, or 1971-1981 van tilt will go in.. The van tilt requires some very minor mods to fit, but is well worth it.

Re: tilt wheel and shifter

Thanks for that. Does it mean that the '73 and later pickup columns won't work? What are the mods necessary for the van column?

Thumbs up Re: tilt wheel and shifter

The '73 and up truck column will not work.

The minor mods required for the van tilt to work are:

1. Move the park safety switch down the column.

2. Change the connector for the backup lamps by using the connector/wiring from the donor van.

3. Collapse the lower steering shaft 2.5" because the shaft of the van column is longer than the original truck part.

4. Depending on the year of the van column, the main harness connector will have to be changed to mate with the half moon shaped connector on the trucks.

5. Plug the gear indicator lamp into the cluster feed port on the truck fuse panel using the existing van connector/wiring.

Other than those items, it is a direct swap with the original column. These steps have been covered here on this board in the past in much greater detail with pictures and exact measurements.
