Exhaust tones?
What exhaust/mufflers do you guys run? I currently have headers running to 3" duals with some long ass glasspacks. I am considering going to some turbo-type mufflers or even Flows or Magnaflows. I am looking for a tight, clean, "classy" sound if possible. With our trucks, I kinda doubt it. Anyone have an opinion?

3" pipes are loud, you might try a Dyno Max hemi superturbo,& add an H pipe to the system (if not done already). I run 2 1/2" duals from the headers to the muffs, with h pipe, a set of short super turbos,& 3" tail pipes with resonated stainles tips. The system is turned out ahead of the tires,& has a nice sound.....but the 4.10 gears make her rumble pretty good rollin down the hyway! I may cut the tail pipes down to 2 1/2", so i can hear the tunes. the 2 chamber flowmasters are way too loud with 3" pipe. good luck......crazy longhorn

I can tell you what not to do if this is your daily driver. Last spring a couple of my friends put dual exhaust systems on their 97 and newer Chevy trucks. They both put on true dual 12 inch glasspacks with 3.5 in tips. This system sounds great on the newer trucks. I thought it would also sound good on my truck so I had the 12s instaled. I forgot to take into account the fact that the headers and lack of converters would make my truck a hell of a lot louder. Sounds great crusing main street or rolling down rual highways. I liked it until I had to start running the interstate to school every week. Now the radio has to full blast to hear it. If I had to do it again I would either get longer glasspacks or some kind of turbo muffler. One good thing is that it makes my truck awful fun in the parking garages here at college.

For whatever technical reason, an "H" pipe on my 402 quieted things down to what you'd expect out of a factory system, at low rpms anyway. When I am going full tilt it is loud, but regular driving is very sane and quiet. I have headers, and a 2.5" exhaust, out through 36" glasspaks. Cheap, and quiet. It was noisy until I installed the "H". Try it, it is cheap, and you cant really hurt anything.

I have headers & 2.5" pipes with summits fully welded mufflers. They are kind of a spin off of flowmasters but they are not as loud. They have a very healty tone at crusing speed but not to loud.

I LOVE SPINTECHS!!!!!!!!!!....they arent for the faint of heart... they sound aggressive and mean....i love it, they make even the tiniest engines sound like a blown big block!!!!....terminator mufflers from flowtech also have a great sound and they shut up at lower RPMs....oh yah....both those systems were with 2.5 inch pipe, both sounds stupendous...good luck.... exhaust can make or break how you look in your car, thats my opinion anyway, i just like anything that blocks out the sound of those little plastic RICERS...

There's a local guy here who runs the spin techs on a 67 camaro and that sob sounds right, maybe a bit much for a daily though. I'm flows with 3" tips exit on each side before the back tire, its a little loud but the radio doesn't work so I just listen to the sweet rumble.

right now i am running the terminators, have had them for a while, i got them from my buddy who had them on his 62chevy2, he has the same engine i do, little tiny 283, i loved the way the mufflers made the car sound, expecially when he made that little mouse SCREAM ....so i put em on, got the same response and couldnt be happier......but my buddy got spintechs now......OH MAN, i never thought that little motor could sound so powerful, I LOVE IT!!!! so i might buy me some.....gotta love them terminators though!
