At LEAST 5 but 5.5 is perfect

if top of tire sits under fender well 2 in or so 4- 4.5 b s

if its lowered at least to where top of tire is close to even with top of fender well 5 - 5.5 b s depending on how fat your tires are.

if this helps I have 9.5 rims with 275x50x17,s .with 5.5 b s / 5 in b s would be abouit perfect

I want some 325x50x15's on there. So I'm just seeing what people are running with a 10" rim. I was hoping for 4-4.5" backspace at the most!

When you say "If the top of the tire sits under the fender well 2 in or so.." do you mean 2" of space between the top of the tire and the bottom edge of the fender well? Kind of like the stock stance where you can look straight across the top of the tire and see the frame?

Wow, I have some 15x10's I was thinking about putting on mine, measured the backspace last night after reading this, it's 3 3/4". And I was gonna do shackles and hangers on the back to lower till the top of the wheel well opening (edge where the chrome trim would go) was just about even with the top edge of the tire. If they won't tuck, sounds like what I'm wanting to do will have tires rubbing on the edge of the fender. Mine's a fleetside, wonder if that makes any difference in tucking. Probably not.

What do you mean by 'will not tuck'?

I basically have the same truck as you (1980). I was thinking some 325/50/15s on there.

the tires will rub if you lower the truck too low.
the outside of the tire sticks out the fender by 1/2 in or so.

the fleetside should be the same (not sure)
