6-Speed Conversions?
I was just talking to someone about 6-Speed Conversions and wondering if anyone out there knows of any kits available for our '67 to '72 trucks.
I have a '72 C-10, 307, 3-Speed. Not sure I want to convert to one, but I am interested enough in one to read up on them and to consider what the cost would be. Any info would be appreciated. |

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
crazylonghorn has a Richmond 6 speed in his truck, hopefully he'll chime in here.
I am planning on a Tremec 5 speed swap myself, classicchevy5speed has really complete kits available.

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
Thanks,
I checked out ClassicChevy5Speed and that TKO-500 looks pretty good. But are there any complete kits out there to install one if I already have my own trans? |

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
There a couple shots of the Richmond http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn pretty straight foward bolt in, but the shifter is a long way back for a bench seat....

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
I put an ROD 6 speed in a 59 'Vette. Custom trans crossmember and driveshaft shortened 3" or so from Muncie 4 speed. Then 3 of us spent a day working on moving the Long shifter forward, and we got 7/8" out of it. I had to trim the body a tad for the shifter, but the hole in the console was just big enough. All the stock clutch and bellhousing stuff worked fine. No kit was available, and I think with the shifter he was $3600 into parts. Besides the shifter, it was a pretty easy fab job.

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
Do you have the part numbers and info from your install? I have a 68 C-10 that I would like to do a six speed mod, vice the 4L60E that came with the LS-1 motor that I have to put in it. The seats and the driveline are no problem here.

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
Some that come to mind are: Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, Viper, GTO, Mustang, Cobra, etc. There may be more. Both Borg-Warner and Tremec make a T56, and you will see there is the TKO also, which may or may not be related.

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
Thats a LS 364, which is the LS2 that GM offers with the manifold in a crate. Dealer gave me a price where I couldn't justify stroking my 350. Of course I spent it all again on the tranny but it makes me happy

Re: 6-Speed Conversions?
Now I'm drooling!
![]() The LS 364/440 w/MSD ignition was what I had originally planned on for mine, but then decided I wanted to go with the LSX block. Its iron so it can be bored conventionally, has 6bolt mains, accepts all LS1/LS2/LS6/LS7/L92 parts(including 6 bolt heads), bore x stroke goes up to something like 511ci, and it can handle up to 2500hp...which is a lot more then mine will be putting out. .....unless there are more deals on the LS 364/440 that can't be ignored!??? oh...and yes, I'll have a build thread! I haven't bothered with it for phase I...which was to strip down my '72 and my '68, and install my '68's body on the '72. Now I can strip down the rest of the '68 chassis, get it powder coated, and begin the build. In the end it will be all new as this truck will be mine for many, many, MANY years to come.
