Leafs Front and Rear
I have a 70 SWB 1/2ton 4x4. It was used extensively by the PO and had leafs added to the rear to total nine leafs. I'm wanting to go back to stock or cose and wanted to know if I could pull leafs off of later model chevy/gmc's? What's the best way to go?

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
I'm not the guru on this subject, but from what I think I've picked up, the newer springs are 2-1/2" wide, and yours are 3" wide. but the lengths should be about the same. You'll need to measure eye 2 eye on the replacements to see if it is the same as your current springs.
Best way to go? - Now's a good time for a lift kit, complete with new bushings... When I bought my truck, the leafs were sagging BAD! I bought replacment "stock" 3/4T springs for it. The bushings they sent me were for the 2-1/2" wide, so I had to turn them down to accept my 3" wide springs.

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
73 to when they went IFS had longer front springs. They bolted up no problem to several of my 4wds but were too long. The 69-72 springs are pretty much their own thing..73-91 (87 for trucks) springs were longer front and back..67-68s are different too..I agree, you won't regret putting a lift on it,whether it be small or large. You can probably get 4 new springs and bushings, and shocks for less than it costs to get stock springs..I always thought the 67-72s looked good with a small lift atleast, they seem pretty little stock height. At minimum I suggest a 2" lift, and allow you to use a little bigger of a tire if that's what you want.

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
It came with 4", but they are really stiff, or I have forgotten how a 4x4 rides.
The height is about perfect with 4" blocks on back. Thanks, Mike |

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
I installed all new springs from my local leaf spring supplier on my 70 Blazer and it was a perfect fit front & rear. The ride was a little stiffer in the rear only because I selected the heavy duty option which came with an extra spring. Total price was less than $300 for the whole works.

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
If you get the chance, please send me their name and number.
I am not going 4 wheeling or anything. I am building it for a nice ride and to drive to go skiing. Comfort is #1 goal. |

Re: Leafs Front and Rear
I just called them, their prices went up a tad from what I remember, and I asked for what I needed which was the leafs for my C/20 4 x 4, which I believe the front leafs should be the same. I asked for the heavy duty option so the std duty 1/2 ton should be less.
Front was $189 each side (3 leafs=HD option) Rear was $145 each side (7 leafs=HD Option) Superior Spring & Mfg Co 2300 State St, Hamden, CT 06517 (203) 248-6385 Hope this helps. You may want to hit the yellow pages local and save on some shipping. When I asked them they had to order them, so maybe their supplier is available to other local suppliers. Frank
