So, I bought this truck today...

I've been Jones'n lately for a 3/4 ton Bubba truck to fix up.

So, I'm motoring down the road in my beater, singing to myself, when I pass this 72 truck for sale beside the road. I pulled in to check it out...

hmmm....

Super Cheyenne....

big block....

A/C and tilt column....

I wound up offering the guy $ 2250 on his $ 3000 asking price and drove it home. The guy quit driving it when the water pump went out on it, so that will be first project to get it on the road...

to be continued in next post.......

Re: So, I bought this truck today...

It's a pretty solid truck. The paint is original and the rockers and cab corners are solid.

First thing today, I started tearing it apart to change the leaky water pump when I noticed that someone had already done the HEI swap for me sometime in the past. Then, I got to looking closer, and sure enough, someone swapped the original 402 for a later model 454. Pleasant surprise for me

Some of the truck's downsides are, no tailgate and damage to right bed side...

The old bed is pretty solid though.

Has new 10 ply tires all around, but the late model wheels absolutely ruin the look of the truck. Not enough offset...

Right now, I'm giving it a cooling system overhaul. Stuff sure is expensive nowdays though. My local guy needs $ 175 to recore the radiator back to brand new status. The days of just buying a new 4 core for $ 150 bucks are long gone fellas. It's more like $ 250 for a new one nowdays.

With all new hoses, belts, gaskets, water pump, thermostat, etc, I'll wind up with better than 300 bucks invested in the cooling system alone.

Nice -- a clean long bedside should be easy to find -- a rust free air cab is worth what you paid for the whole truck!

I wish I could stumble upon something like that. My luck is such that when I find a deal like that I'll be broke.

Yes, I see a kinked brake line in that picture that I've got to replace too.

WOW...nice find! I also find it neat that a loaded truck like that has no radio. It has the factory radio delete option. I bet that is why he knocked of $750.

It's got a cheap Pioneer CD player in it right now with under seat speakers. I sure wish I could find an old school Pioneer Supertuner III shaft radio like we rolled with in high school though.
