what is this thing?
there are/were 4 of them in the back by the leaf springs on my 71 gmc.

kinda looks like it is for keeping the leaf from going too far... but MAN.... that's a LONG way for the spring to go before hitting it.

They appear to be helper spring stops...like longhorn man suggested, but for the extra set of helper springs (may have been removed by a PO). was there one near the front of the leafsprings too?

looks like you could lay a piece of pipe across them from one side to the other.

If they were two in the front of the springs and two in the rear, they may be some sort of bed rests. Sort of like for a flat bed or tilt bed???

mabe there were for some sort of attachment for a camper in the bed? I seem to remember seeing some with a pipe that goes across under the bed & chains on the ends that go up to the camper...
