trans help ??

i going to look at a saginaw 4 speed for my 68 on sunday. if i were to pull the side cover off what would i be looking for to tel if it is good or not ?

any advice ??

Look for obvious broken gears. Also on the gears their are small teeth that align with the brass syncrohnizers. If any of them are chipped that is a sign of hard use or abuse. If they are chipped enough they will not hold the transmission in gear on decelleration causing it to jump out of gear.

Not an expert here but I'd also check shaft end-play.And pour a little oil out and if it looks like silver or gold paint then pass on the deal.Look at the shifter forks for lots of wear,also blue gears not a real good sign.
