Re: dans 60

Front or rear diff? If front,be prepared to spend near $1000 in most cases for one.It should just bolt in,then you have to adress steering, brakes, etc.

Re: dans 60

Should be right around $100 bucks or so, have you thought of using a Corporate 14 bolt full floater? Supposedly stronger, GM original equipment, and again, around $100 on craigslist or pirate4x4.com

Nothing much John, just working a bunch of OT and trying to finish up the lift on another truck of mine. Free time is in very short supply!

The people on pirate do suck for the most part, all of them have built the most bad ass wheeler from their computer, but never fabricated anything themselves. I'm doing a solid axle/4wd swap on my 2001 2wd Silverado, and all I heard from alot of people on their was no way, not possible. A few chimed in that actually had done it, and gave me plenty of helpful advise to think about. That being said, if you want to wade through the bs over there, there are some great people who are very knowledgable!

Re: dans 60

Probably the most important is getting one that has the proper gearing to match your front diff. As for which one is better a 60 or a 14 bolt FF, it partly depends on your intended use. The 14 bolt FF may be a little stronger IMO, and parts availability for either is good. One thing to consider is I believe the average 14 bolt FF is going to have a 1 1/2"wider track width than that '66 D60. The exception to that is a 14 bolt FF that came in a 1 ton cab and chassis, which will be narrower than a regular pickup differential. If you do go with a 14 bolt be sure to go with a full floater (FF), not a semi floater (SF).
If it were me I would go with the 14 bolt for the price difference providing it meets your needs as stated above.

Re: dans 60

Well since you're going to go with new gears, the 14 bolt makes more sense from a cost standpoint. But that is provided it fits your need as I stated above....the wider track width mainly. A couple of other things come to mind regarding the 14 bolt (1) shock mounts on the 14 bolt will be staggered, IIRC your '66's aren't (2) you may want to check the width on the spring perches, I'm thinking they are the same but I'm not positive. On the plus side the 14 bolt is going to have bigger brakes than that D60 you found.
