auto locking hubs

my 87s auto locking hubs have been giving lots of trouble latelly .... they keep slipping and wont engage and when they do it is really ruff. I was wondering how to get them off, i pulled the cover off and got the main spring off but i am stuck from there, i cant seem to get the acually locking hub part off. anhy ideas on tis would be great.

There is a round internal snap ring on the inside of the hub near the outside edge. They can be a little tricky to remove and you will probably need ti push in the drive flange to get at it. Throw the automatics in the junk and buy a good manual set like superwinch or warns. Hope this helps.
