Can a 4 speed be used with a Dana 20?
Just got a restored frame on ebay and it has a rebuilt Dana 20 in it.
No engine or trans, was thinking of looking for a 4 speed to use in it. I know Dana 20 cases often had 3 speeds, but would rather have the 4 speed if I can. Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Scott

The 70 blazer drivetrain I bought to do my conversion is a 4 speed and D20, I think the trans is the SM465

From the picture, it looks like the Dana 20 on that frame you bought has the adapter for an SM465 on it. You would just need to find a 465 with the correct output shaft. Is the shifter for the Dana 20 there?

Thanks guys, GMCMAX sounds like you answered my question.
Tim, I believe the auction includes a chrome shifter for the Dana 20 (can't get to ebay from work). Can anyone tell me the pros or cons of the Dana 20 vs say a NP205? Thanks again to all. Scott

Tim, forgot to ask, would you know what the correct output shaft would be for the Dana 20?

As far as size is concerned, the D20 was most prevalent in Jeeps, Scouts, and perhaps early Broncos (don't know much about them). I think it would be fine if you left everything stock, stockish hp that is. If you want lots of power I'd go ahead and get a 205 now and save yourself some headache.

I haven't broken mine behind a stock 350, but I don't do any hardcore four wheelin, shifter doesn't come through the standard hole in the hump, it's to the rear of the trans shifter and leans left.
