carb replacement
I searched the site but didn't find an exact answer. Do I need any special parts to switch my mangled rochester over to an aftermarket such as holley or edelbrock. my current carb has broken and missing peices from the previous owner. It looks like he tried to convert it to a two barrel by removing the control arm from the secondaries. and the electric choke is busted half way off so it is not fixable at all. The auto stores around here all have rochesters starting at 700.00 and above and that is not in my price range.

Your rochester is a spread-bore carb and most aftermarket carbs are square-bore. You'll either need an adapter to mount a square-bore holley/edelbrock on your spread-bore intake, or upgrade to an aftermarket intake with square-bore flange.

you may need to modify the throttle cable bracket (just dd that monday), may need to get the ten dollar piece of plastic that will lift the original breather off of the carb about an inch, since it may hit the distributor

All that, or you can just buy a Holley-rebuilt Q-jet from PartsAmerica for about $130 and call it a day

what about all those vacuum lines that run across the top and everywhere? Can i axe those as weel? I know some control the accesories.

the only vacuum you should still need is for the vacuum advance, PCV, theres a hookup for the brake boosters (if you have power brakes) and another one for something.... cant remember

okay I brought a holley 600 and the guy swore that it would fit my stock intake with an adapter. The model is 4160c universal. Is this a good model?

the holley site says that all the 4160 are for marine application, anyone else getting this info?
