Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

what exactly is it you are looking for? The custom camper is nothing but an option package that has HD shocks, springs, tires and a sway bar.

That's right LM plus there is a possibility that split-rims came with it too.Source; a really old guy I talked to,plus the 1968 Kelly Blue Book that I have. They aren't mentioned anywhere in the resto pack though. But my camper came with them.

WLH, does your SPID mention the 16 inch tires? Splits were the only way to get 16's in an 8 lug wheel... I think they basicly came with the tire option.

Didn't know that. Here's the camper tire selection for '69 C-20;

In the KBB it just says heavy duty springs,shocks..........split-rim wheels.

Here is a picture of my dad with one at a promotional event for Evertt Chevorlet in Hickory NC back in his younger days. Our family spent 6 nights in that thing at the outter banks that summer.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

The Custom Camper option basically gave you a pickup with a heavy duty suspension system. Chevrolet wanted you to order only the additional options you wanted, and not to include every useful option to campers standard, to keep the cost lower. This is why they are set up so differently. Some with large mirrors, some with tool storage box, some with sliding rear windows, some with auxiliary batteries, some with CST option etc.

Here is a 1970 Custom Camper 20 with 16.5" rims, the previous photo by Andy shows a 1969(because the rims are silver) with 16" split rims.

andy's dad is leaning on a longhorn too! And... so is the photo you included too.
Not all 69s came with silver wheels... Longhorn jeff has an early 69 longhorn, CST/custom camper and it has green 16.5s on it. (green and white paint job... also original)

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

The one I bought recently has some kind of auxilary battery system device on the drivers side inner fender. Is this some kind of option. I don't know if there is another battery other than the normal one on the passenger side inner fender. It also has 2 extra gas tanks inside of the bedsides in front of the reat wheels, is this a option or something the PO added? I'll post some pictures tomorrow if anyone wants to see them. Thanks

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

the Aux battery could be had as a dealer add on, or a factory option.
The fuel tanks were normally added by the dealer or efter market vendors... but could be had from GM in 72, and maybe in 71.

My '70 had the aux battery as well, plus my label on the glovebox gives an option code and description for camper wiring. I was told by the po I bought it from that the original owner had a camper in it, but when they bought it, they took it out and had it sitting behind their house until about a month before they sold it to me. They sent it to the dump. I was kind of bummed about that, but I still got a great deal on the truck.

`72-only for aux.fuel tank. Not part of the package, but required to order package, were optional engine power.Mine had the camper wiring harness and not listed as an option.k equipment on spid. The CustomCamper name plate was an option and mine had it.It had all the Cheyenne equipment and no markings except Custom Sport Truck.May not have alot in package, but truly a special group of trucks. No level included alot of features.Heck,a CheyenneSuper included less than a Custom Camper.

From the looks of the "scooter" at the bottom of the picture it looks like it was someone elses "younger days" also.

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

My dad won the scooter for sales that year. He sold more trucks than anyone in his district. He won all kinds of stuff like that back then. It went with us on our vaction too.
I was 8 years old when the picture was taken in June of 69. I have 5 olderbrother's and 1 older sister, no we all didn't fit in the camper that summer. Dad,Mom and three kids did though. 4 weeks total in that thing.
Went through the Blue ridge parkway and then out to the otterbanks and stayed a week then back home to Newton Conover NC.
My Dad & Mom still live there.

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

Thanks.Wish I had another.I`ve wanted a low profile one for my `72 Sierra. That was the plan when I let this one go.I bought that in`88 and got many family vacations out of it.Including a trip to the Grande Canyon North Rim and Utah canyon country.Made to 25 states. One of the best things I ever did for my family.

A really big camper.Note how far back the rear bumper is located. Also, this one has optionable mirrors and 16" 2 piece rims.

Very Nice! We were discussing somewhere recently about whether the 2-piece rims were standard on CC Pkg.Mine had them and my 1968 Kelly Blue Book says it was included.

Mine had the optional stainless mirrors. That one is a CustomDeluxe with a camper, but not a CustomCamper.I`ve had them with the Nameplate option and with the model badgs and CustomCamper script on the doors.

Re: Custom Camper Truck Pic's

That`s a nice one, nice ad.I wish I had taken a picture of mine at the canyon.I wonder what mirroes those are. They aren`t the campers or below eyelines.I never knew of one between.I think this is an early`71 promotion and those are 69/70 mirrors.Notice turned-down upper mounting tab.
Here`s a shot near the NM/CO border on our `89 trip.More for the background and family than the truck...
