I'm at a point in my 71 4x4's life that I need to do something about the engine. I know I'm going to keep the small block, but I'm wavering on going back to a modified Qjet on rebuilding my engine or putting a TBI engine in. Those engines are pretty resonable. I currently have an Edelbrock 600 that just doesn't cut it for me. Anybody have inputs?

I did the TBI conversion on my 454 and I love it. Hop in, hit the key, drive away. No matter what the temp is, it always runs right.

I bought a beater 88 chevy with a very good running 350 TBI for that very reason.

Fuel injection is the way to go if you can afford it. I would like to get me a ram jet 350 fuel inject but I can not afford it right now or ever.

I think in reality, a built up 350, moderate cam etc will make more HP than the TBI but it wont have the driveability or mileage of FI. Now a 5K ramjet is another story. its a sweet engine.

carberators can flow more air and fuel than injection which = more power and they can feed larger engine easier
but fuel injection is more effeicent with the air fuel ratio resulting in a more efeicent power and reliability

if you can find a donor vehicle and get all of the engine components there are a companys that make controllers and are practically plug and play.

in the future i will prolly be installing a 5.3 since they are sequentail injection instead of throttle body i can get a little better performance

So what years are the best of the TBIs? How hard is a BBC to shoehorn into a 4x4?
