Re: Custom Console pics, please

Great thread, with some good info. I'm getting ready to build one for my '71 too, and got some good tips & ideas from the articles posted. Thanks guys!

BTW, mine will have a Hammer shifter in it. I chose it over the Megashifter due to it having a shorter arm, and I'm wanting (I think) the console to be taller than most I've seen in the shifter area. It will also have gobs of switches, storage, drink holders, comfort controls, window controls, & mids. It will blend in to the built-in speaker box in the back, and dash in the front. And who knows, it may even get an LCD screen before all is said and done.

I'm gettin' ready to pull my truck in the shop and tear it completely apart (almost anyway). The "big build" will soon be underway. And this will be a major portion of the project. Along with many, many other items to be addressed both inside and out. It'll all give me something to do this winter, and early spring. I plan on documenting this build well, and will start a build thread as it gets underway.

Jay

Re: Custom Console pics, please

One thing that has been in the back of my mind the last year is what to do with the heater output. I have owned vehicles with the heater blowing on the foot area, and they all cook your feet while your back is creating goose bumps.

Where have you re-routed the heater output? If you hold your hand right at the discharge it is VERY hot- don't know that I want all that heat running through the console year after year since it will be built from MDF.

I know some of you have addressed this already- whay did you do and are you happy with the decision after using it for a while? I don't want to build one and then another to fix the problems from the first one

Re: Custom Console pics, please

I am watching this thread with great interest. I built a plywood console for the 70 but will be doing an exotic wood version for the 67 with all sorts of toys in it.
